I never said the pick wouldnt be included in a Sundin deal but there will be more going back Anaheim's way with Mats if they want the pick included, at least thats what Burke is saying.

I'm sorry, that article does in fact support the information you have been using, I have never seen that statement before and I bow to your sources as being accurate, accolades to you...

The Ducks' scouts have spotted seven key players heading into this summer's NHL Entry Draft with whom they have an interest in. Burke said that if he's to trade the pick, it won't be for a free-agent-to-be.

"We think there's seven players in this draft and then there's a drop-off," he said. "If it looks like it's going to be a top seven pick, then it's not going for a rental. It can go in a hockey deal, but it's not going for a rental."

It is interesting because it brings up the question, just what deal he will offer to Fletcher, that will knock his socks off when presented to him for Mats Sundin?...

Im guessing most like Bobby Ryan + Edmonton pick for Mats + take your pick of Antropov or Ponikarovski.

I would jump all over that.

Looks like this one is beginning to come true.

6 points separates them from a playoff berth and the first over-all pick.

37 games remaining, JFJ & PM are on the hot seat, talks about Sundin waiving his NTC have been gradually increasing, and Pogge has been called up. We could be in for quite the ride for the second half of this season..

Thats not really correct. The league has a draft lottery so if the leafs finish 30th they get a 20% chance of getting the first pick.Keep in mind finishing last does not mean you get the first pick.

This is truly saddening, but I wouldn't mind if the Leafs end up with Colin Wilson or Zach Bogosian. It's not the end of the world. Either would still be the top prospect we have IMO.

moving further and further away from landing the next young player that should carry this team.

If we don't land a top pick, I hope they are smart enough not to simply buy guys out or ship them to the Marlies and then replace them with more high priced talent for a run next year. Unless that guy is under 25, and there aren't many restricted or unrestricted fa's that I know of this off-season worth that.

I hope they are smart enough to be patient and wait one more season to hopefully land Tavares.

Then again, knowing the Leafs they will somehow put another roster together that can scrape into the playoffs and end the 3 year playoff drought.

R.I.P. Toronto Maple Leafs 07-08

Just too little, too late. But that loss was disheartening for sure. The referees had some terrible calls (some were helpful to the Leafs) and that basically decided the game. I'm sorry, but that last goal was total crap. I hate seeing anyone lose a game based on a goal like that. I mean, there were so many things that could have changed the outcome of this game. But whatever, at least we can fully go through the draft process without having to fill any needs (aside from superstar :)).

I think the last goal was clean. From the overhead shot you could see it was still out in the open. That seems to be one knock against Toskala this season - he loses track of the puck when it's in the crease.
On a positive note they've been playing much better defensively the last little while especially in taking care of the player with the puck.

With Edmonton winning, that puts the Leafs back in the top 5. St. Louis is sitting on 68 games, but Atlanta has 70 GP. If the Leafs can finish bottom 3, that would place us in a really competitive position for the 1st overall. I don

as long as we finish in the bottom five ill be happy and accept our luck with the lottery. I think this is going to be a year where if you have a top 5 pick and want to move up into a position to draft #1 overall you can if your willing to give up a decent young player seeing both Tampa and LA might be looking to add a defencemen over a forward (Doughty and Bogosian). So something like this.

#1 Stamkos for #5 and Alex Steen.

You basically have to ask yourself what youd rather have (Steven Stamkos or Luke Schenn/Bogosian/Beach and Steen). Ill take the chance with hitting a homerun with the franchise forward over the other 2 players. This team badly needs impact forwards and a new face to the franchise and theres really no better kid then Stamkos who is from Unionville. Leafs fans love Mats Sundin and treat him like a god, imagine if our captain was from a nearby town and turned into a superstar.

Depends who gets that pick, but that is a fair assessment. If you're looking at a team like LA (but it would have to be a bit higher than 5), why do you need Stamkos when Kopi is your franchise C? I really think this would make a lot of sense for them, and then let's see them take Luke Schenn.

That is assuming they ditch Nagy/Cloutier and deal Blake (which should definitely bring in some new assets). I don't know why the Kings can't be owning right now, their team is fantastic on paper.

they also have Boyle and Hickey who will be ready real soon. That team is going to be owning in the very near future as theyre isnt a better core in the league then theirs.
