I'm not an NHL capologist.... but considering the deal the Myers kid got from Buffalo, methinks melikes this deal a lot. No more contract distractions... time to focus on hockey!

As first reported in the offseason thread, by hsb:

When the Toronto Maple Leafs open training camp on Friday, they will have Luke Schenn ready to report on the blue line.

Schenn agreed to a five-year contract with the club on Thursday night. While exact details of the deal have not been made official, It's believed that the deal is worth $3.6 million per season.

Schenn, 21, played all 82 games last season and scored five goals and 17 assists. The Saskatoon native is entering his fourth season with the Maple Leafs.

Looks like it buys 1 UFA year...

The money is just about right for the time being, but I love the term. If Schenn continues to improve, this contract will be a steal in a few years.

actually heard some negative feedback from some callers on the fan yesterday. anybody who is not pleased with this signing is a moron. in the 4th and 5th years of this contract, Luke Schenn will be a steal at the said price tag. Get real to those disappointed :p

anyone who dislikes this deal has no idea what they are talking about. his play last year + his age make this deal a steal. then you hear the argument for too much money for a guy who will score 30 points, those "fans" are with all due respect, idiots.

Fair deal. Dreger says Schenn's cap was willing to go 3 years/$9M, but the Leafs wanted a long-term deal and Schenn wanted a little more $$ with a longer term.

Fair deal to me. He was always going to be within the 3-4 mil range imo, as a solid stay at home defeceman. Can't complain especially considering the price tags vs production we've had from most other signings such as Finger, Komisarek, Beauchemin, McCabe etc.,

one can't question if its a good deal. it really is.
the bad part is how much $$ the Leafs have locked into their D.
it really cripples the team.
i'd be willing to trade one of their top d-men and let Gardiner/McKegg make the club, and get a top forward back.
this will be one boring team to watch.

Return to Toronto Maple Leafs
