Six Pack Spells Win

February 22, 2009

The Captain Leads Marlies Ship Back On Course

(ROCHESTER, NY) – Sometimes you lead by your words, and other times in your actions. Ben Ondrus took the action route on Sunday.

The Marlies captain scored a pair of goals and Toronto got their groove back in a 6-2 drubbing of the Rochester Americans in the back end of a home and home series, and snapping a five game road losing streak.

Jiri Tlusty also had a pair of goals while Bates Battaglia and Jeremy Williams scored for the Marlies. Michal Repik and Randall Gelech had the Amerks goals.

The Marlies wasted no time in chasing Amerks starter Mike Brodeur, after scoring two goals on 5 shots in the opening seven minutes of the game. Tlusty netted his first of the night just over four minutes in the game, before Ondrus snapped a 19-game goalless drought with a slap shot outside the blue line that beat Brodeur on the glove side.

Tyler Plante entered the goal, and then Jeremy Williams snapped the puck behind the net minder for a 3-0 lead. Mark Bell won the face-off cleanly and put the puck right on the stick of Williams, who quickly got the shot off for his fifth goal in five games. Toronto held a 17-6 lead in shots after the opening period.

Rochester rallied in the second period with a pair of goals 3:23 apart from Repik and Gelech. The second goal was on the power play after Adam Munro made the initial save, before the rebound came right to Gelech on the side of the net for a wide open goal. Ondrus would put Toronto back ahead by 2 goals, after another face-off win, when his shot from the high slot found its way through the pads of Plante. It was Rochester who had the 15-7 shot advantage in the second.

The Marlies iced the game late in the third on a brilliant 3 on 2 passing play by Tim Stapleton, Tlusty and then Battaglia finishing it off with the goal.

Ryan Hamilton set-up Tlusty for an empty net goal to make it 6-2 on Tlusty’s 20th of the season.

Adam Munro made 30 saves for the win, including a couple of key breakaway saves.

Toronto was held scoreless on two power play attempts, while Rochester was 1 for 4.

The Marlies will travel to Cleveland on Friday to face the Lake Erie Monsters

HAMILTON -- Ryan Hamilton's two goals in an 18-second span of the first period kicked off a Toronto scoring spree as the Marlies routed the Hamilton Bulldogs 7-1 in American Hockey League action last night at Copps Coliseum.

I just saw that Jiri Tlusty has 9 points in 7 games for the Marlies.

It's time to get him up to the big club and see what he can do. It's not like they can't find someone for him to replace. I don't think there's much left for Tlusty to do in the AH: after his strong season last year and good start this year. I know he didn't shine in Leafs training camp, but given where things are with the Leafs I don't see any reason not to have him on the team.

EDIT: I just noticed that he's listed on the Leafs roster on the official site. Apparently Mr. Burke agrees with me. :)

I think this thread should be added to the new Raptors forum directory.

Could bring in some new traffic, especially with a few games on the CBC this year.

I think the Marlies should see an increase in attendance this year. With CBCs coverage plus with some depth in the minors for Leafs, a few more people should be making it out to games.

I plan on going to a couple Marlies games but I was suprised how expensive the tickets were! I was looking at centre ice, upper bowl and I think they were $40 a piece...so I can go to a raps game or a Marlies game...hmmm....

There's no upper bowl at the Ricoh.

Buy the $10 tickets and enjoy the game.

I got curious and did a bit more investigating, so if anyone else is interested here is a bit more info about tix:

$13.50 & $22.50 for endzone seating
$35.50 for side seating
$43.50 for platinum seating

This includes the ticketmaster service charge but probably without taxes. Never been to a game at Ricoh but I'm pretty sure all platinum seats are considered lower bowl and everything else is considered upper bowl.

I actually work in sales for the Marlies:

Tickets are as follows:

Platinums - $39 / seat
Sides - $31 / seat
Endzones - $19 / seat
Toronto Star zone - $10 / seat

These are the prices if you pick up tickets prior to game day - To do this you can call the puckline at 416-597-PUCK (7825) or if you want to support a fellow Real GMer 416-263-3908 is my direct line

Watching the game today you could tell that the boys still needed to find some chemistry between them - the PP was weak but we made it interesting towards the end. It should be a good season nonetheless, and this team should be playoff bound easily.

It's also nice to see former Marlie Timmy Brent playing well with the Leafs!

The "upper bowls" are the equivalent to golds/reds at the ACC. It's all one level all the way around the rink. The seating is probably 20-25 rows high. There'd be no reason to spend anything more than $10 a ticket because your view is no different than the expensive ones.

Huge leaf fan but its very hard to watch these marlies games for me. I love watching it and being like "Oh hey theres hanson, he looks pretty good out there" but other than pointing out players that ive had an eye on or heard much about during the training camp theres no real excitement. The commentating isnt up to the original HNIC CBC level at all. But im quite pleased that they actually show some Marlies games on tv.

Check out this nice goal by Kadri! If he can get used to the AHL speed and the body power he'll be up in no time the way our centres are playing.

All right I'm glad I checked out that link. Kid's got serious skills. But we keep hearing he's not improving at the AHL. I figure it's all about bulking up, which may not be in his genes. He needs to get to work doing whatever Luke Schenn did this past summer.

I am not a fan of Kadri getting called up soon. He should play against all the opposition at least once and for those second games there should be a noted improvement. So, hope to see him as a call up by the TD.
I've seen things you people wouldn't believe.
