Franson's IQ out there is like Bargs... #1 "has to be off the team by next season" candidate. Or frankly get a pick for him this deadline and play Ranger in his place, trade an irrelevant forward for an injury sub defensemen and it's all good

They gave up 19 shots in the first period to a pretty bad offensive team.
They may win in the regular season like this but they are definitely asking for a quick exit from the playoffs with this style.
The defense on this team just likes to sit back and retreat. Plus they're horrible the second it goes in the corners and teams apply even the slightest pressure.

Ranger was even worse than Franson in any time he played.

I was shocked they didn't call the penalty. They got the goal right away and that probably took the steam out of Ottawa the rest of the way.
Kadri has had some questionable hits, when he's in control and adding that physicality it's really good and he has significant impact on the game. But he's crossed the line a few times too.
I think it's at the point where we have to fully admit that he's a dirty player and deserves a lengthy suspension before he really hurts someone. We all know it's coming.

Thank god we finally broke through in the 3rd because the Canucks looked beyond pathetic, I've barely seen an NHL team play like that, the Leafs were like Wawrinka vs hobbled Nadal in the Aussie Open final and playing against themselves when it was 1-0
Winning 5 of the last 6 after the streak got snapped with a few Ls is huge. They could be playoff locks by mid March if they knock out a handful more wins in a row when coming back

The Olympic break couldn't have come at a worse time.

Meh. I'm quite happy we head into the break and the lead up to the trade deadline with a few extra points. We should be able to deal from a position of relative strength.

Season starts up again with an away game against the Islanders.
"I definitely knew he traveled, but I didn't know they were going to call it. That was one of them situations in which a great player made a move...and they called the call. And I was like, 'Oh, man, there is a God.'

OT, but now Luongo is in our division.
And Mike Gillis
Also, wonder if this means they're selling off players now? I've heard Edler's name in the rumours. I'd give up Gardiner + for him.

Re: Leafs 2013-14 Regular Season Thread
They are at very least one quality stay at home defenseman away from being stable or viable in the playoffs. Even vs the competition in the east (most of whom made improvements at the deadline unlike our Leafs).
Our blueline is erratic at best, especially Phaneuf and the young risky D we have who are cutting their teeth.
Gleason is on an island on that blueline, and it will affect his play. He will end up trying to do too much (see Phaneuf) and will make errors, which will be costly considering the situations he is asked to cover. This is my speculation though.
The forward lines are sometimes effective, sometimes awful. When they are on point, the Leafs top line can be creative and a legit threat. If they are not hitting 100% of their stride, it becomes a Phil Kessel im-gonna-do-it-myself 1 on 4 **** -show. Kadri and Lupul are lukewarm and don't get me started on Clarkson and the third line.
But to write off the Leafs recent success as a bunch of "smoke and mirrors" is comical...
And as far as Reilly being far from development:
Stats from HF (rookie season):
Morgan Rielly: 57GP 2G 19A 21PTS +/- -10
Duncan Keith : 81GP 9G 12A 21PTS +/- -11
Drew Doughty : 81GP 6G 21A 27PTS +/- -17
Erik Karlsson: 60GP 5G 21A 26PTS +/- -5
PK Subban... : 77GP 14G 24A 38PTS +/- -8
Shea Weber.. : 28GP 2G 8A 10PTS +/- 8
Over 82 game season:
Morgan Rielly: 82GP 3G 27A 30PTS +/- -14
Duncan Keith : 82GP 9G 12A 21PTS +/- -11
Drew Doughty : 82GP 6G 21A 27PTS +/- -17

PK Subban... : 82GP 15G 26A 41PTS +/- -8

Clarkson has to be the most useless player signed, huge money for 3 goddam goals and constantly taking dumbass penalties.

Wow our playoff lead is already gone effectively. We're +9 Ws over Reg Ls. (Effectively pts over .500) CBJ +9 NYR +8 DET +8 WAS +6. Would read as half a game lead in other sports
MTL Sat night is a must must must win. This team has proven they can hot at the brink of a collapse. Hopefully paging a 3-4 W streak
