This could get Toronto hockey fans salivating.

If Ryan Getzlaf is truly available for the right price -- and the general manager of the Anaheim Ducks hints that's the case -- there's talk the Toronto Maple Leafs could be interested. As far as Damien Cox of the Toronto Star is concerned, Getzlaf is exactly the type of guy the general manager of the Maple Leafs fancies.

"... While slumping badly this season, the 26-year-old Getzlaf is precisely the big, tough centre that (Brian) Burke has coveted but been unable to land since taking over in Toronto. Burke knows the player well from Anaheim's 2007 Stanley Cup championship, the timing now would fit the Leaf GM's preference of making big deals well in advance of the winter trade deadline and Getzlaf would certainly also fit the pattern of players who appeared to run out of steam in other cities coming to Toronto and finding the atmosphere reinvigorating ..."

Considering the Leafs already have centers Tim Connolly, Tyler Bozak, Mikhail Grabovski, Matthew Lombardi, David Steckel, Nazem Kadri and Joe Colborne on board, a deal for Getzlaf would clearly involve several players. A package including defensemen Carl Gunnarsson or Cody Franson, and forwards Kadri or Colborne could be headed west.

And even though Cox concedes GM Bob Murray would much rather move Bobby Ryan over the Ducks' captain, that may not be a huge impediment. As reported by Helene Elliott of the Los Angeles Times, Murray insists only Teemu Selanne and Saku Koivu are considered "untouchable" (unless Selanne asks for a trade, of course). Altogether, this could get very interesting, very soon.

There's no way that a Gunnarson or Franson and Kadri or Colborne for Getzlaf deal is enough to get a deal done. From what the Anaheim GM is saying he doesn't even want picks or prospects in return, he wants players that will help Anaheim make the playoffs next year. My guess is that any Getzlaf to Toronto deal would have to involve Schenn as the focal point.

I'd move Schenn + in any deal for Getzlaf, I think Schenn is our most expendable peice at the moment. I don't think it's wise to trade Kule with his value this low either.

However, the last few weeks we've already been rumored for Ryan, Staal, and Getzlaf, before that- the Sedins, Stamkos, Rick Nash, Thorton, list goes on. None of this stuff gets me excited anymore.

I could see Schenn out the door for a potential Getzlaf deal, then you could add Colborne in there as well. You can add picks and whatever else, but if I'm Anaheim, any package would start with those two.

This gets me a little more excited just because of Burke's relationship with the Ducks organization. He's already made 3 trades with them, including one (albeit minor) just a few days ago.

Is Burke even the GM of this team anymore? All his big moves that first off-season, Beach-Armstrong-Komi-Orr missed the boat by a country mile. It seems like he's just put a lot of very good hockey men around him (which he gets full credit for) and spends his time bullying the press and talking about "hockey issues."

his press conference quotes gives many hockey scribes and non-Neanderthal fans more fuel for their anti-Burke fire.
sometimes I like Burke, but that Colton Orr press conference is a good reminder as to why I usually can't stand him.
I was at the Jets-Sabres game last night. Neither side had an enforcer on the ice. Great pace to the game, some good action. Zero cheap shots. that's the way the game should be played.

sometimes I think Burke (and some other NHL GMs) don't get it.

sometimes I think Burke (and some other NHL GMs) don't get it.

A lot of them quite enjoyed the trap and grab era as they thought it kept salaries down by filling up roster spots with untalented goons and big checking bodies. Amping up the play and point production is just going to mean bigger payouts, and more guys on the roster earning decent salaries, in their eyes.

I really feel like I have to start defending Jonas now, because like I said he seems to get hate on unfairly in the media. I listen to Fan590 and TSN Radio daily and I keep hearing constant jabs at Jonas. When the Leafs lose, they either blame it on Jonas or they say its not Reimers fault. When they win, they dont give credit to Jonas but the rest of the team, and they keep jabbing him saying hes a backup, he played bad before, now is a good tradebait. "Dont get me wrong, Jonas played good last night, but.....". And they keep saying "When Optimus Reimier/Reim Minister gets his starting job back...."

The team is on winning streak with Jonas in Net, he has played great. The quote is "your best Penalty Killer is your Goalie", well with Jonas they have been killing penalties and now the PK doesent look as bad as it did a couple of weeks ago, and Jonas hasent let a goal in during the 6v5 final minute which is basically a PK. What more does he need to do to not get slammed?! Win a Cup? Just ease up on Jonas, you win and your win, and they are winning, no need to change it because people in town are enamored with Reimer.

I choose to watch the game tonight instead of the Raptors game which is surprising cause im a fan of the Raptors, and a baby Leaf fan, but I enjoyed it, good game, but expects jabs at Jonas tomorrow morning. The Leafs to need win games now, if Jonas is helping to get the wins, then he stays, you win and your in is working.

So Ron Wilson apparently had the best penalty kill ever in Washington during the 97-98 season. The year he got fired in San Jose they had the best penalty kill too. The Leafs ever since the lockout have been bottom 4 in goaltending. I dont really like Wilson but he has a legit case to make that a lot of problems arent his fault. Hes never been given a half decent goalie for a long stretch of time.

Or a proper penalty killer for that matter. When we're trotting out Dupuis/Boyce/Steckel as the main parts of our PK, that's a problem.

I feel a big slump is coming up for kessel. It has less to do with him not getting points the last three games and more to do with the fact he isnt generating any kind of offense.

Maybe we need our superstar centre Bozak back

Wow...regardless of what happens in this game, I have to say, gustavsson has been nothing but SOLID this month and I say this after absolutely writing him off earlier in the season. major props to this man cause this season would be deep in the dumpster if not for him.

If Montreal has going to have a fire sale, I hope the Leafs inquire about Travis Moen. He's a good penalty killer, and shouldn't cost much at all.
