And the knicks/leafs parallel keeps growing. This Phil Jackson 2.0 for the leafs. Especially since Babcock is getting gm duties.

Seriously though the Knicks and Leafs are identical. Both get 4th pick. Both have an offense only 'star'. Both are considered the biggest market in their franchise. Both are absolute ****.

it's an apt cross-league comparison for sure, but jackson doesn't coach the knicks. and babcock isn't getting GM duties -- only that he has a say in player personnel. the rest is pretty accurate.

also amused at all the sour leafs haters chiming in with their two cents. babcock's only overrated if he signs with the leafs -- yet they would swap the coach of their team for him in a split second.

Leafs just got the best coach in the NHL. What have the knicks done after Phil Jackson was hired?

Not to mention shanahan, completely wiped out the whole coaching staff/management postions/scouts in both the leafs and the marlies. He's starting from scratch. Shanny has been proactive ever since he got here and there is WAYY more to come. Phil Jackson has been sitting on his ass.'

Oh and the Knicks fell from their spot to 4th. Leafs didnt.

Other than that, you are right. Leafs and knicks have been both trash. But the leafs with Shanahan and Babcock, are headed towards a better future. I hope.

Good move MLSE. Red Wings reached the post-season for a current high 24th consecutive season in 2014-15. Babcock is the winningest coach in Red Wings history. If we can get anything from the Red Wings, it is the culture of winning. He brings that.

Leafs young stars gonna shine now. Hopefully this means no more lazy players. Players need to be held accountable and what better coach than Mike Babcock?

Hopefully Kessel/Bozak/Lupul/Phaneuf all traded. Maybe even Gardiner. I dont like him as a player tbh. Too soft and lackadaisical.

Theres no point of comparing him to Popovich anyways. Fact still remains that Mike Babcock is currently the Best, if not top 3, hockey coaches in the world today. His resume speaks for himself. Not only in the NHL, but for team canada as well.

You seem mad because people are just comparing him to Popovich. Its 2 different sports. He might as well be the closest popovich we have in the NHL. it doesnt take waya antyhing from Popovich himself

Holland told media in Detroit on Wednesday that his final offer to Babcock on Tuesday was a five-year term. one more year than he had presented his longtime employee last June and in January.

"I couldn't justify going past five years," he said. "We've only won one playoff round in four years. We had bigger goals than to make the playoffs, so to wake up two, three years from now, if we're not able to take this program to the next level, then everybody starts looking at options [elsewhere]."

Im hoping its Marner too. His skill set is off the charts. Marner has more potential to be a game breaker too.

Marner has the skill set to be the next right handed version of Patrick Kane if everything goes right. Which rarely ever does lol...
