OT:Jaroslav Halak Traded To The Blues, Where Were the Leafs?

Montreal Canadians G Jaroslav Halak has been traded to the Blues for Lars Eller and Ian Schultz. If you watch Leafs, you're gonna hate that the Leafs couldn't make a move to acquire a goalie like Halak. We have no starting calibre goalie.

now that this is in the hockey board instead, i can say it wouldve been retarted for the leafs to trade for another goalie. were paying big money to JSG and have the swede and finn youngsters behind him. you dont give up MORE assets for a guy, whos hardly proven to be a stud everyday starter. and if you quote the playoffs ill quote you michael leighton.

The leafs can't make any more trades... they don't have any more first round picks to give up.

The Leafs were doing what any other divisional rival would do in the situation. Allow the Habs to do this deal, and hope Price still can't play in the pressure cooker in Montreal.

I feel bad for Eller though, the pressure on the kid will be huge after this deal.

Because he's 26 and Price is 21. Halak hit his ceiling with a resounding thud against Philly after carrying us. Price has all the potential in the world to bring us even further.

And while I would've liked to see Johnson or Pietrangelo (who wouldn't?), the return on goalies is never as high as people initially think.

Halak was born in 1985 and Price was born in 1987. Not sure where the 26 and 21 year old references came from..

I think that Price has a higher ceiling then Halak but this could also come back to bite them. Halak is more then a flash in the pan...he's had more then one good playoffs and to be honest MTL will take a step back next year w/ Price in net. Halak was a big part of the reason as to why they even made the playoffs and then everyone is aware to what he did in the playoffs.

Riskier trade for Montreal as opposed to dealing Price. Montreal was in a tough situation and there may not have been a right/better one but MTL fans should be aware that Price hasn't played as good as Halak in a few years and Halak will probably be better than Price for a couple years.

Right now Price seems more like Theodore than Roy

If you watched enough games this year, you'll also noticed that the Montreal Canadiens were an entirely different team with Carey Price in nets. With Halak in we would squeeze out 4-3 wins and the like, with Price in we'd lose 1-0, 2-1. It almost looked like they were trying to get him benched, especially after the whole Markov/Price debacle.

I still think this year was a blessing in disguise for Price. He thought he owned the town and had all of it taken away from him, and at the end of the year, people were raving over his attitude, maturity and work ethic as much as Halak's performances. I think they're both going to go into next season with a gargantuan chip on their shoulders; only problem with Price is he's still going to have to play through boo's because
A) Montreal fans are the biggest morons in the NHL
B) They're going to want to have their voices heard and try and make Price the scapegoat once again, but this time for what his GM did. They booed Gainey after he let Kovalev and Koivu walk, Gauthier's gonna get the same treatment, but it's gonna be Price hearing the boo's during the game.
