They got offers for Versteeg but hes been playing well lately. 23 points in the last 26 points and hes on pace for 55 points. Cant ask for more.

Versteeg, Armstrong and a guy like Crabb would be an amazing third line. Fill out the top 6 with the skilled guys and youd have a very good offensive team. But thats 7.1 million tied up on our third line which is probably too much.

Leafs are working on signing Mike Brown to an extension. 3 year $875,00 per year. Solid move.

Very solid. I'm liking what I've seen from Brown so far this season, and he'll be costing us next to nothing for a useful defensive/PK'er/tough guy.

What a game! Man Gustavsson must be pissed that Reimer is getting so much goal support. Hes been playing well. I hope they dont send him back down when Giguere returns.

I'm with ya...I'd rather drop JS and expose him to waivers and see if anyone will pick him up...I'd opt to trade him but I don't think he has any value on the trade market.

Giguere doesnt mind waiving his no trade clause. I dont think Burke trades him though because his son has a medical condition and he needs treatment in top class hospitals. Thats why he got the trade clause in the first place.

His cap hit at the trade deadline would be about 1.5 million so that might be too high too for a team looking for a goalie.

“Right now, I’m not in that type of situation, but if I can get back to playing at a good level before the deadline, it could be different,” Giguère, 33, said prior to last night’s Leafs-Kings game at the Staples Center. “If another team wanted me for the last part of the season and the playoffs, I would discuss the issue with my family and make a decision. But I’d be open to it.”

Such a mind-set is based, almost solely, on the friendship and respect between Giguère and Burke.

“I truly believe that Burkie helped me last year by bringing me to Toronto,” Giguère said. “With my salary and another year left on my contract, that probably wasn’t an easy trade for him to make. It was certainly a bit of a risk. So if it came down to a deal he wanted to make at the deadline this year, I think I would have to respect his wish and, at least, talk with my family.

So no more Fire Wilson threads/chants for now? haha
I always liked Grabovski too since the Montreal days, and he's showing some great skill, a nice top 6 forward and a pretty decent line with Mac and Kulemin, but man, we need some size and skill up the middle. Too bad we have so much money tied up in overrated/useless defenders and JS.

From Wiretap:http://hockey.realgm.com/src_wiretap_archives/8938/20110113/sources_nhl_to_fine_leafs_for_wilsons_act/
Players routinely put money on the board before games when there's something personal or meaningful about the matchup(.....)Wilson picked up his 600th NHL win Tuesday night, a 4-2 victory that meant a lot coming against his former team, which he coached for more than four seasons. Before the game, he reportedly put money on the board for his players to get the win.

A league source told ESPN.com that it was against league rules for a coach to do that and "it would be addressed."

A Leafs source confirmed to ESPN.com Thursday that the club would be fined.

I think that's kinda weird and lame at the same time. The coach is putting up his own money to reward and motivate the players to WIN. It's illegal for him to do that, but ok for players to do so? Why is that exactly? Isn't the coach's job to motivate his team, and isn't it his perogative to do whatever he wants with his money? What's the difference between doing that and offering to take them all out for dinner if they won the game? I think this is stupid and the fact that the LEAFS are getting fined and not Wilson is kind of even stupider.

Happens all the time. The mistake was showing it on tv.

back to boring, meaningless games.

JS will be starting in net for the next few games. Expect a really shaky Monster to play ever 3rd or 4th game.

Out of the playoff hunt, no draft pick in next year's draft and their 3 most intriguing prospects are playing in the minors.

This, my friends, is called crap-your-bed hockey

More games like this and the Monster era is ova. Burke will have to find a goalie because he cant go into another season with a unproven goalie tandem (Reimer+ Gustavson.) They might tank and then hes really in trouble if the Leafs suck for 3 years in a row.

This might be the worst franchise in pro sports.

No, I'm serious. They're easily the worst franchise in hockey in terms of (recent) past, present, and (potential) future. Pittsburgh Pirates might have them beat, but that's about it off the top of my head. Even still, they won a WS since the Leafs won the Cup.

Clippers.

It's debateable, but I'd argue that they aren't worsts franchise in hockey as well, depends how you're evaluating...playoff appearances, playoff wins, overall record...there are teams that have had less appearances, less playoff wins, worst record in the last 15 years than the Leafs...and the larger sample size the better off for the Leafs...Florida Panthers...

Clippers have Blake Griffin. They're righting the ship. Toronto has Phil Kessel sometimes and the opposite of a #1 pick. Whatever that is.

The Clips are looking pretty good w/ Griffin, Bledsoe and Gordon but the owner is a complete racist twat and will eff it up...he always does...I remember when people were going crazy over Brand, Miles, Odom, Maggette, Q-Rich and that never amounted to anything either...I'd trade two first rounders for Griffin though...

The Clippers tend to look good every couple of years, on the verge of a breakout but they somehow screw it up or bad luck.

As for the Leafs, this last seven years since the lockout has been horrendous. And there doesn't seem to be any light at the end of the tunnel. You would think after 6/7 years of being bad they'd have managed a way to get some top notch prospects but instead they aren't in the system. They've got more youth in the system but none that actually gets you excited about the future.

They are selling the now even though the now is not good and the future doesn't look any better. The second they made the Kessel deal, they're priority was to get a number one center to play with him and they continue to fail in that regards. They don't fall of trees but still, Burke is just sitting around and not deciding one way or the other where he's going with this team. And Wilson is horrible.
