Globe and Mail tells me that Toronto places last among NHL players in a ranking of where they would like to play or not want to play. If hockey players don't even want to play here, is there any hope for ball players? Isn't this a really bad sign regarding our city and pro athletes? I don't think it would be a stretch to say baseball players don't want to play here either. Since the taxes aren't really an issue due to special exceptions in our tax code, what is it about Toronto that makes all athletes avoid us like the plague??

Who cares what NHL players think? I could care less if the Leafs were a perennial last place team for the next 500 years.

While it would be nice to see them win a cup before I get old, I care way more about the Raptors winning.

Cause all our teams suck and our Media and Fans are vicious, unrelenting and unforgiving. You cannot win on or off the Rink/Court/Field.

The fans. Lots of good ones and loyal ones but also lots of hate. Your under a microscope of negativity in the media.

Maybe its because Toronto is a difficult market to play in. The media eats anything alive thats not the flavour of the month/showing uber promise/or aren't meeting unusual expectations. Once the media turns on you the fans will eat the rest of you. Or when the fans turn on you, the media follows to finsih u off and flames the team/organization as well.

It really isnt. Ron Wilson is also ranked first among coaches that most players dont want to play for.

I think the media and many fans try to distance themselves if the going gets tough by hating their own. It's like you won't bother a toronto sports fan by putting their athletes down, because they hate them too.

toronto's too expensive, it go time all the time in toronto. no real place to relax and the media like tsn, SUCKs BALLS

LOL Detroit got the most votes for team you would most like to play for. One of the least desirable cities in sports is loved by the hockey players. I guess if you're winning...

It's because there's so much pressure in this city.

Bettman should do this league a favour and bring a team to Hamilton.

Its because of the pressure and all of the media frenzy in toronto. I bet montreal was a place nobody would want to play as well.

Winning solves all...probably nothing better than winning in a major/biggest market but nothing worst than losing in the same market...
If this franchise ever turns it around...it'd be tops in FA destinations...

Nobody wants to play in a city that's bottom feeding. You run the poll for just CITY alone, and no team success, etc. taken into play, and you for sure see teams like Tampa and Florida much higher due to the weather, you'd see teams like Vancouver up there because of how beautiful the city is, and Montreal/Toronto/New York would be tops for players that want to play for historic franchises with the most loyal fanbases. Based on city alone, there's no way in Hell you see Detroit in first or anywhere near the top 20.

Does that really surprise you considering when is the last time we've won the cup? Once you build a winning culture and team then believe me things will change with players perceptions.
