For Lupul, cond. pick, scrubs. I don't get it. Lupul has 2 more years and he's basically done, anyways.

Everyone said The Munster Formally Knock as The Monster is up next and that it'll be done before 4, when Burke holds his yearly press conf. to talk about his 2 trades he made in one day.

Kind of a lame trade.

No chance in Hell. Nobody wants that contract, even as an expiring.

The Munster is going to be in Detroit/NYI by 4PM.

Nice deal for the Leafs...

Lupul has talent...and could do well if left alone on the top line with Kessel

Nothing wrong with adding a young D-man and pick either

Beauchemin was no longer part of the longterm plans...

neither should be the captain and the other alternate captain.

I've heard real good things about Garidner. Was a 17th pick in 08 and apparantley proven his worth

Virtual 1st, 4th and Lupul for Beauch is a great deal. I'm impressed.

No I think this actually gets him more minutes. Anyways good deal. He has two more years and makes the top 6 more respectable. You get the Ducks second best defensive prospect and a 4th round pick for Beauch.

This is amazing for us. Sure Lupul's opverpaid, but it's only slightly more than Beachemin and we need OFFENSE. He's also a lot younger and still has potential.

Then we get a damn good prospect who the wire tap says could easily be the best player in the deal in a few years. THEN we also get a 4th rounder. All this for Beauchemin who we couldn't even watch play without being frustrated,

Good deal Burke.

Lupul's a reclamation project, but it's not like this is going to affect us majorly either way this season. Beauchemin logged some big minutes, but it's time for Komisarek to step up or gtfo. Who knows, hopefully Lupul can find some chemistry with someone up front and stay in the top 6, because he's on the books for another 2 seasons anyways. Lupul will be skating with Bozak and MacArthur tomorrow as per Ron Wilson.

Gardiner is the key to the deal, I've heard some really positive things but he's certainly not a lock to be a solid NHL level dman. Never a bad thing to add some young defensive depth. Here's a great read with some information on Jake from his coach:

http://tsn.ca/columnists/?id=353114

And here's his HF profile, he was ranked as the 2nd best prospect on the Ducks prior to the trade:

Other than that, I think from the presser you could see Burke had a lot of things on the go. If Giguere is tradeable, you can be sure he's gone. I don't see Gustavsson being dealt despite the rampant rumours earlier today and Burkie refused to comment on Kaberle which seems to be the norm now. We do have some depth on the right wing so Versteeg could be moved, but I'd prefer to keep our depth the position as it's really the only position where our forward group is semi-decent. Kessel/Versteeg/Lupul/Armstrong is solid.

The Monster isnt going to be traded. He just got yanked from the Marlies game for a heart problem. If the problem isnt serious you ll see a Reimer/Gustavsson tandem next year

Lupol is not on the team because he has talent.
he's here because the Leafs can absorb his crappy salary.
if they get something out of him, its a bonus.
its a why not trade. if he works out, great. if he doesn't, he will be the whipping post and will be demoted to the minors or bought out this off season

I dunno about that. They said the reason it didn't go down today is because more teams phoned Burkie and put in offers. Otherwise he was off to Detroit or NYI. It makes sense; Detroit wanted him before he signed with the Leafs and the Islanders' goalie situation is pathetic right now.

Yeah, Gardiner is the key import in this deal. Don't know much about him but he's been a point-a-game guy in Div 1, and played on the team as a freshman at 18yrs old which only a handful of players do. He's still a few years away but he and Keith Aulie could be a potential 2nd line defensive pairing if they pan out as Burke mentioned today.

The Beauchemin/Lupul exchange is essentially a wash, even though Lupul is owed a bit more over the next two yrs. Frankly, I was getting tired watching Beauchemin get his panic-attack passes picked off in his own zone for a goal.

Anything Lupul does positively will be a bonus and who knows, he might just be a 20-25 goal guy in the unlikely event he regains past form. Or it could be a case (couple with his injury) of not getting a legit opportunity in Anaheim with Perry and Ryan ahead of him on the depth chart.

Who said that? Everything I've seen is related to the elevated heart rate and said that he was pulled for precautionary reasons. Unless someone overpays, the Leafs don't have a lot to gain and a lot to lose by moving Gustavsson.

Monster not going to NYI...they just picked up Montoya:

This is a good trade for both teams I think...and a gamble for both too.
