March Leafs discussion

Post#1 » by Traps92 » Fri Mar 4, 2011 7:49 pm

- February was interesting... acquired young talent and picks. Gardiner for Beauchemin, Colbourne, 1st round pick and conditional 3rd round pick for Kaberle and Versteeg for Philadelphia's 1st and 3rd round pick

- Leafs are 10-2-4 since the all-star break

- Kessel has been on fire having 8 goals and 5 assists in 9 games

- Leafs are currently 3 points out the playoff spot

Playoffs? IMO I think it's still too early for me to tell. Honestly, I do want to the Leafs to make the playoffs, but they can be inconsistent at times. But hopefully, with the way that they are playing right now, they'll keep it up and eventually get that 8th spot or even higher, depending on how other teams play for the next while.

Very very important game tonight. Must win to keep pace. They will be two points out if they win tonight. Got to pick up a point or two every week.

I really hope the Leafs make the playoffs. I don't think we'll win a series, but it'd be gratifying to see them competing again. It's been too long (5 seasons and counting...).

I somehow expected that they would choke when the carrot was within their grasp. It's still not too late, but Toronto teams just oh so love to choke.

Leafs up in the third versus Buffalo.
"I definitely knew he traveled, but I didn't know they were going to call it. That was one of them situations in which a great player made a move...and they called the call. And I was like, 'Oh, man, there is a God.'

4 points out! Nice win just when it's reported that the MLSE is up for sale by the Teachers Pension Plan!

Hmm, Greg Millen talking about how Phil Kessel doesn't have a one-time shot, and how he works on it in practice. How is that possible for a goal scorer? No one time shot and no deking moves.

he has a ridiculous wrist/snap shot. he gets his goals when rushing, not when setting up for a 1-timer. conversely, how many goals did Brett Hull get while in full stride (heh) going down the wing?

trying to think as to how one can make Kessel more productive...you basically need him to be fed on the fly or someone with speed to join him on a rush.

HOLY F*CK... what a god damn game, unbelievable game tonight man. Kadri looks like he's going to be something special.

Eventhough if the Leafs don't make the playoffs this year, I'll be somewhat happy because we won't be giving a top 5 pick this year to Boston.

It was nice to see Toronto in a hockey game like that. I feel like it's been years since I've seen the Leafs in a game with that type of atmosphere. I see the Bruins becoming our biggest rivalry moving forward as well with the trade history, division, orignal six, Komi v. Lucic...now all we have to do is meet them in the playoffs.

And we're not holding on to the coat tails of a vet, these results are due to the young core. It's been an up and down year but I think we got some pieces to build with.
