OT: Wade Belak found dead

Post#1 » by theonlyeastcoastrapsfan » Wed Aug 31, 2011 11:30 pm

@simmonssteve steve simmons

The Toronto Sun is reporting Wade Belak's death as a suicide. According to our news department, he hung himself.

I think this is what the other thread was about.

RIP to a former leaf

Retired National Hockey League player Wade Belak was found dead in a downtown Toronto hotel and condominium complex on Wednesday. A source with the Nashville Predators, Belak’s last NHL team, confirmed the news late Wednesday afternoon.

Belak was 35.

The cause of death was not immediately known.

Officers from 52 Division responded to a call around 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday afternoon and found a man dead on the scene. That man was identified as Belak. A police forensics unit was still on the scene late Wednesday afternoon, but foul play was not suspected.

Belak retired after 15 seasons spent as an enforcer, a career that involved stops with the Colorado Avalanche, the Calgary Flames, the Toronto Maple Leafs, the Florida Panthers and the Nashville Predators. He had recently been named as a cast member for the third season of the CBC’s “Battle of the Blades,” and was preparing for a new job as a television analyst with the Predators.

What terrible news. To have such a gift and have it ended this way makes you think about how fragile life is. My condolences to his family.

Very sad to hear this news today. Belak always had a smile on his face and was a joker with the media, he must have had some deep issues underlying which caused him to take his own life.

Thoughts and prayers to his family. He may not have been the best player on the team, but he was always fun and filled his role.

Sad to see him go. Grew up watching the Leafs with him on the team. I was shocked because he came across as a really happy person.

What's up with all these enforcers killing themselves?

Im absolutely shocked. His death was one form of shock but it being a suicide is just that much more. Considering how he always was in the media (laughing and joking). Guess it just goes to show you never really know whats going on inside.

RIP. Never met him, but he and Tucker spent a few minutes chilling with my disabled brother who was working at McDonald's at the time. Guy could've just grabbed his burger and left but instead made my brother's year. Class act.

His family just confirmed it was Auto erotic Asphyxiation and not suicide. This was rumored a couple of days after the incident, but a lot of the media kept hitting the suicide angle. I don't know why as a society we have to be so repressed about sexuality sometimes.

I've heard this rumour as well.
