Leafs are lit. They'll have growing pains, but man their young players are **** legit. Sort of like the NHL version of the T-Wolves.

Carey Price is the Montreal Canadiens.
I can say Nylander has looked like the best Leafs player so far. The best skater hands down, plays with so much poise and makes things happen on offense.

I can say that for the first time I'm really enjoying watching hockey again because of these kids. I know they are going to make mistakes and the losses are piling up but they are fun to watch right now.
If they play this style all season and rack up the losses to secure another top pick and maybe find a young goalie to develop long-term while Freddie is under contract would be pretty awesome.

Unfortunately guys like JVR and Kadri are also making horrible mistakes. They need way more out of these guys. The rookies are going to be up and down, but the vets have not driven much of the play.

Im confident JVR, Bozak and Kadri will all heat up eventually.
Would love to turn Bozak in draft picks/prospects.
Im officially on the tank watch now. 4th worst record so far. Id love to add another top end talent to this group. Nylander, Marner, Matthews and Rielly is a pretty good core.

I don't think it's a matter of them heating up and contributing offensively, they've been pretty bad and the team as a whole has given up some pretty bad chances to opposing teams leading to quite a few goals. It's a team wide thing but the vets need to be better.
But hey, keep losing, entertain us and let the kids score and create followed by a top pick again.

Our vets obviously aren't good, at least for the responsibility they've been given. There's a reason why we won the #1 pick last year.

Matthews vs. McDavid for the first time tonight. Here's hoping both put on a show.

Wow, Kadri had a great game.
Really did well against McDavid and pots two in the effort.

Re: Leafs 2016-17 Season Thread
Matchup between McDavid and Matthews didn't really live up to the hype. Kadri though had a great game. Forget the two goals, if he can just consistently be a pest for opposing teams, he fills a great role moving forward.
Matthews came on from the second period on and had a few chances. It really is amazing to me that a 19 year old like him is that strong and able to control the puck against so many guys in the league.
Also, lost in all the talk of the rookies is the great play early on of Zaitsev (pardon the spelling if wrong).

Kadri has always walked the line between dirty and playing with an edge, and coaches tend to like that, which is why Babcock seems to like playing him. I do think Kadri could be more consistent effort wise, though.

I'm not getting the Kadri hate so far. He's put up 8 points in 10 games, and has played relatively well defensively. If you're expecting incredible numbers (because of the hype that surrounding him in relation to his draft position), you're going to be disappointed. If he can put up reasonable numbers, and play a responsible defensive game...he'll have a spot on the roster for a long time.
JVR on the other hand, has been bad. If the Leafs can flip him for a top 4 defenseman, they should go for it.

I don't think anyone is hating on Kadri per se. While he's had a good start, the thing with him is always consistent effort. I think with all the rookies scoring it's taken some pressure off him to just play and that's letting him do his thing.

Last year Kadri was picked out by analytics guy as an underrated player that had bad luck with shooting %, he was 12th in the league in shots. I think we are seeing that come around now
