Is this one of the most impressive NHL debuts by a first pick? Wow. I've been excited about Matthews for a while now and he keeps raising the bar.

This ish is pretty damn ridiculous. Like you know kid's gonna be good but hat trick on 3 shots so far. Marner's looked good so far too.

Laine with a hat trick, and the Leafs blow a big lead against the Jets.
We've got a young team this year, get used to games like this.

These are all good losses, at least. Two gimmick OT losses and a third period collapse on the 2nd night of a back to back on the road.

Yup, they've stayed competitive so far. Keep in mind, this team is younger than last years team. I'm glad we've got some of our top youth in the lineup now though, and not players like Parenteau, Boyes and Winnik.
Watching Nylander, Brown, Marner and Matthews out there has got to get people excited for the future. One player that has really impressed so far is Hyman. I get the feeling that we'll be seeing him on this team for quite some time, he's one of those 'Babcock' type players.

And Soshnikov is a better version of Hyman and will be on the team when healthy. I'm not so sure this is a bad team yet. I just think they have a small margin for error and the rookie wall will likely take them out of playoff contention.

I'm pleased with how Matthews has responded since the Laine Hat Trick. Most players woulda gone in a funk (well, I would have) but he's responded well the last 2 games in bouncing back with 2 good games.

Sigh. They're young, we expect them to dazzle with raw skill and then choke away leads and games, but it doesn't make it any less frustrating to watch. I suppose this is gonna be an entertaining losing season at least.

The long-term commitment to Anderson and Kadri is not looking too good these days.

Waived Michalek to pick up Ben Smith? I don't get this. It's not Michalek's fault that Kadri doesn't have a defensive pedigree and is unfit for a shutdown role.

Despite the losses and meh goaltending/defense we have two rookies that are sitting in the top of NHL scoring.
