Capitals-Maple Leafs Game 5 preview: Braden Holtby may be the key to taking control of the series

After Washington went into Game 4 on the road and trailing 2-1 in the series, there were plenty of “here we go again” sentiments floating around. But the Caps took Game 4 in Toronto, 5-4, to even up the series as it shifts back to D.C. Now it’s simply a best-of-three. Will the Capitals defend home-ice and surge ahead in the series? Or will the young Maple Leafs again give Washington fits — and stoke those all-too-familiar fears of local failure?
We’ve got everything you need ahead of Friday’s Game 5 below. And stay tuned: This story will update frequently, including live highlights and analysis during the game.

We'll win this series if andersen stands on his head again, seems he's cooled a bit off the last 2 games. Go Leafs Go, raptors sacrificed themselves again for the leafs so gotta take the advantage.

Yeah Freddy has definitely let in some weak ones. Jonn died for the Raptors, and the Raptors died for the Leafs

All I want is round 2, I don't know when was the last time we made round 2 but even though I know we'll get destroyed by the pens I know it will be the perfect lesson for the young kids on how a championship team plays in the playoffs. Matthews can see how crosby plays and acts too.

Scoring the first 2 goals this time would probably help. We don't hold leads well but I'd like not to be playing from behind.

How do you know we'd get destroyed by the Pens? Everyone thought we'd get our asses handed to us by the Caps too, but we've made it a series so far.

I think ideally keep it a close game. Don't hold a huge lead but also don't play from behind. Win it late in the 3rd or get the game into OT where we hold the advantage with our energetic young guys.

They are fresh, we are not. They finished their series yesterday 4-1 and will be resting till our series finishes. We have at least 2 more games. Our injured defense has been overachieving vs the caps and will get destroyed by malkin/crosby and even kessel. Remember in the reg season we didn't play a full pens lineup once. The only thing we have going for us is if murray is till injured in round 2, otherwise we're ****. Also don't forget they are champions from last year, caps have always been chokers and have never went past the second round.

OT and old news, but what do you guys think of this--intentional or not?
It's quite clearly intentional in my opinion. He didn't bump into him, he shoved him with force. There are still some fans online who don't think it's intentional.
Anyway, the guy is apparently getting sued for 10 million by the ref

Saw it earlier today and it's intentional, when he hit him he didn't even look back. Still 10 million is ridiculous, if he was suing him for a couple hundred thousand I would understand. Still it's kinda **** that a referee can sue a player. This should've stayed internally in the nhl. Does this mean that every time someone tells a ref to **** off you can get sued? or the hundreds of times refs get banged up accidentally now they can sue? It's stupid.

After being shut out in games 1-2, Matthews now has 3 goals in the series. Reasons to live: Auston Matthews. Sure glad we tanked last year!

It's a joke that Kadri received a penalty for that hit on Ovechkin. How in the world is that considered tripping? Kadri's legs never left the ice...

More overtime hockey. I've been enjoying these regardless of the result.
