Is this good news or bad news for Leaf fans?

Well, there's talk of JFJ needing a mentor....

According to the Toronto Sun, the Ottawa Senators have fired general manager John Muckler.

Muckler wouldn't discuss the issue with the paper, directing all inquiries to Senators owner Eugene Melnyk.

"I haven't been told anything," Muckler told the Sun when asked about potential changes.

This makes no sense for Ottawa. One of the following may have happened;

1) An altercation/significant disagreement amongst Muckler and Melnyk

2) Melnyk has another replacement in mind for Muckler, and has been interested in that particular individual for quite some time. (Tambellini? He's be an excellent choice as GM, someone the Leafs should look at)

I've heard rumblings that Murray wanted to be a GM, and was slightly considering doing it elsewhere if not Ottawa

Agreed...

Leafs are looking for Upper Management to oversee the The Club and Mentor JFJ and although my first choice would be Bryan Burke. If Muckler is there, he would be my second choice, Few people are available that can match his hockey knowledge and Peddie would have a hands off. This would give Muckler a free hand to call the shots...

According to rumour this is why Muckler is leaving Ottawa because of Melnyk, wanting him to get Gary Roberts at the trading deadline and Muckler not doing it, supposedly his toughness Melnyk thought, would propel them to the Cup, Muckler though the price was too high and passed...

I too think Tambellini would make a very good GM. I have little confidence in JFJ as GM...

It's confirmed that the Leafs are interested in looking for a senior exec next to Ferguson.

The Toronto Maple Leafs are believed to be quietly searching for a senior hockey presence. A veteran hockey man Leafs general manager John Ferguson, among others, will be able to lean on for guidance. The position remains just a concept, but already the names of highly decorated candidates such as Scotty Bowman have surfaced.

Just to add onto the Exec position...

Muckler will be interviewed by the Leafs shortly (as early as Friday). Also, Bowman declined the position, and the Leafs have contacted several individuals.
