Raycroft welcomes the competition

COLUMBUS -- For the record, Andrew Raycroft did not spend yesterday afternoon chucking blue-and-white darts at a photo of Vesa Toskala.

Nor did he retreat into the woods near his native Belleville and start burning the official flag of Finland, the country Toskala calls home.

On the day the Maple Leafs made a candid statement about the state of their goaltending situation by acquiring Toskala from the San Jose Sharks, most observers figured Raycroft would be oozing with bitterness.

But Raycroft wasn't about to give his critics the satisfaction of hearing him whine. That wasn't about to happen.

"I think it's a really good move for the team," Raycroft said in a phone interview less than an hour after the deal had become public. "Vesa's a great guy and I look forward to playing with him."

If Raycroft does his job, and Toskola does his, they could do some great things together in Toronto. Glad to know we have some character guys on this roster.

Raycroft's a loser. Not once last year did he accept personal responsibility for his poor play and I can't think of one game that he won for the Leafs. To be a #1 goalie in this league you have to steal games on your own and you have to be accountable.

He's saying that stuff becuase he has to. He better get a good book and a comfy seat picked out becuase he's playing in 15 games tops next year. Toskala is ain a different league.
