According to Darren Dreger, it appears the Islanders are willing to do just about anything to keep Smyth.

There is a strong sense the Islanders are about to hit the 31-year-old with an offer he may not be able to refuse.

Speculation suggests the Isles are preparing an offer above $6-million per year over a 7 - 8 year term.

It's been heavily speculated that the Leafs are after his services, but as much as I love Smyth, at that pricetag the Leafs couldn't afford it, nor would it be worth it. Seems a bit overpriced. Gotta love the Isles and their ridiculously long-term deals though, haha.

I thought Milbury wasn't there anymore :D

Smyth is a good hockey player but he's way overated IMO. He isn't part of the top tier of talent in this league and a 7-8 year contract to a 31 yr old is insane. JFJ better back off this guy if thats what its going to take.

I want to start the "Paul Kariya to Toronto" bandwagon.....

I'd like to start that , and see that.Islanders organization are filled with morans. Ryan Smyth IMO most overrated player in the league.

the isles should do a sign and trade, they could get alot for him.

This deal is (Please Use More Appropriate Word). Not because Smyth is overrated, I don't believe he is, but because how the hell are you going to justify paying Smyth that much when he is in his late 30's. The way he plays he is going to significantly decline by that time plus the fact that there is no guarantee the cap will stay at 50 million, what if it drops?
