According to tSN Kubina is out indefinitely. Arguably TOR's best defenceman this year goes down and now the Leafs will need to really step up their game in his absence.

When will the Leafs ever have a full healthy lineup

TORONTO - Defenceman Pavel Kubina has been knocked out of the Toronto Maple Leafs lineup indefinitely with a medial collateral ligament injury to his right knee.

Kubina was injured during Toronto's 3-2 loss to the New York Rangers on Saturday night.

The 30-year-old is in his second season with the Maple Leafs. He had one goal and 11 points in 18 games this season.

The only problem most of us have with Kubina is the large contract he has, this is not of his making but his agent and JFJ's, over all he is a reasonably good defenceman and was just finding his groove, he was probably our best D over the last few games...

Kubina will be missed but it does give us a chance to see some of our young D, especially Derrick Walser, who has been burning up the AHL, his only drawback is his size at 5'10" and we already have Ian White another under size D who has played extremely well...

This may also give us a chance to see either Kronwall or Stralman for an extended period of time and if we do trade a D at the trade deadline, we will know that he can be replaced by one of these younger guys...

We have good depth at this position and now is the time, to see just how well one of these young guys, can come up and play at the next level, as Kubina may be sidelined for some time...

Wonderful.

Out best defenseman this season goes down with an injury, he's been playing fantastic hockey over the last stretch. He's really surprised me with his play.

Oh, by the way...

Pavel Kubina was not about to let a broken finger stop him from suiting up the past couple of weeks.

The hulking Maple Leafs defenceman sucked up the pain and did not miss any games since recently blocking a shot with his open hand, an injury he hid from the public quite nicely.

He's been playing with a broken finger as well.

Which I believe to be the situation for almost every team in every league in every sport. Injuries and other various dramas happen. A team needs to go out and play with what they have. If a team cannot learn compete under adversity, it will do little better when all is well. That is what I learned from my involvement with teams .... as a player ... a coach ... an observer and a fan. IMHO
