According to TSN hockey insider Darren Dreger, at least three clubs -- the Pittsburgh Penguins, Tampa Bay Lightning and Los Angeles Kings -- have called the Leafs inquiring about Raycroft, who has become entrenched in his role as Toronto's backup behind starter Vesa Toskala.

I think Clemmensen could easily fill in as back-up...

The Question is what would we get in return and would we need Razor as insurance should we make the play-offs. It would be nice to dump Raycroft and pick-up a prospect or draft choice, I would like Gary Roberts and a draft choice from Pittsburgh...

The real reason to deal Raycroft is to free up his cap hit and with Toskala's 4 million contract kicking in next year, it would be too much for a goalie tandem, when Clemmensen could be signed for a lot less...

I do however think we should hold on to him until the trading deadline because as our back-up, he is the best option if we make the play-offs and in that case, as there is a dearth of NHL goalies he would be just as valuable to us as to anyone...

Whatever we get for him is really unimportant, as it's the cap hit we are trying to get rid of but at the trade deadline his value may increase and a good prospect or draft choice may be offered and that would be a bonus...

Afterall, Anaheim had to waive Bryzgalov. I can't see how we could trade Raycroft unless it was for a salary dump on the other team. New Jersey gave San Jose a 1st rounder to take Malakhov, Colorado offered a 1st to take Theodore.

After one season of Raycroft's services, this is what it's come down too. I just wish we kept Rask and our picks. We probably would've missed the playoffs though... oh wait

why would Tampa deal a very solid defencemen in O'Brien, who they gave up a first round pick to anaheim to add a goalie in raycroft who isnt really any better then Holmqvist or Denis?

I like the idea of holding onto him until closer to the deadline, in the hope that some team will be desperate enough at that point to take a chance on him. But, if someone offers to take him off our hands now, it would be hard to say no.

It's somewhat of a paradox in that if he's playing well enough to increase his value, you probably don't want to trade him.

Without the winning streak, there's no dilemma, but it looks like the Leafs are going to be in the same situation as the last two years - right on the bubble. That makes it very hard to dump a guy like Raycroft for picks and prospects - trading him would be better for the future, but would hurt the goaltending for this year.

Only if the Pens wait to pick him up on the way back up.

I've heard that many GMs were aware of Burke's promise to Bryz that he would put him on waivers if he didn't trade him, and that was why no one made a move. I really think that all players are truly tradeable, and Raycroft will garner something out of a team in need. But if he keeps up these mediocre performances, the interest level will continue to diminish. JFJ is probably trying to use those 37 wins as bait for any takers, but at this point the best thing he could probably pry out of someone is a mid round pick.
