Thoughts from the Leafs/Canes game tonight

I was at the game tonight, and watched rather closely. I've come to the following conclusions after much consideration:

* Anton Stralman is going to be an unbelieveable player. After watching him live, his overall skating ability both with and away from the puck is fantastic.

* Darcy Tucker is extremely useless. I couldn't stand his inconsistant play tonight.

* Pavel Kubina is underrated. Despite his contract, he does so many things right.

* Dominic Moore has wheels. He created a couple scoring chances tonight, and hope we keep him around on a 4th line role regardless if we rebuild or not.

* Matt Stajan dissappears for good portions of the game.

* Kyle Wellwood is NOT used enough. I know he's struggling and is out of shape, but come on now.

* Tlusty has some wheels. I think I saw him once or twice out there (that I noticed) but he's going to be a good player in the near future.

* Leaf fans at the ACC are utterly clueless. When it was announced that Stralman recorded an assist on one of the goals, I proceeded to hear thousands of "who"'s.

* Rod Brind'Amour is one of the best defensive players I've seen in a long time.

* Eric Staal is going to be an unbelieveable player in a couple years. He has good hands, he knows how to use his size...and has a knack for the net.

* I was commenting on the fact that Andrew Ladd looked out of place, and he proceeded to skate down the ice and score the very same shift. It didn't go over well with the people in my section.

* Toskala let a couple softies in tonight, but he's just so quick in the net.

When changes come. Tucker needs to be the first to go. The game has passed him by. Hopefully there is a sucker out there that needs veteran help and will take on his contract. It will have to be a team whose scout spends more time at the bar than at his seat.

Kyle Wellwood needs an attitude adjustment. He must be sitting beside Tucker in the room.

I sometimes wonder who gets the tickets anyway. My friend who has seasons doesn't have a clue either. They are a business investment. When he gives his tickets away he doesn't watch on TV either. Perhaps not being there and watching on TV gives us casual attenders gives us an advantage in terms of knowing what is going on.

This is hillarious- i was just speaking with a co-worker of mine re: the game and I made almost all of the same observations. I thought Tucker was especially useless last night- Sundin set him up at least 3 times with not even a shot on net by tucker. he alsop iced the puck in a number of key situations or just missed breakout passes. Either he's hurt, or he's done.

I though Moore looked good, but that migfht just be that the Leafs look so bad. I think he wouldn't stick out so much on a good hockey team, probably becuase he wouldn't get the ice time.

Sundin had to come to the aid of Tucker when he got knocked down in the 1st period, with the likes of Wozniewski on the ice. That was pathetic that Mats has to do that- no balls on this team without Belak in the line up.

Kilger played a good game, except when Cole made him look silly on that goal. In fairness to Kilger, thats what happens when a power forward is coming in on his off wing on a forward covering on D. Gill was late and Whyte had pinched and got caught. Whyte was ordinary at best and Ladd had no business getting 2 shots off with Whyte in his face- that was brutal D on that goal.

The only thing valuable he brings to the team is leadership. At 3 mil a season, he better be making the team dinners too. Honestly, Tucker looked lost out there. He's lost a step, he's not the same physical player he once was...and it's like he's lost that competitive edge to him. If we can get ANYTHING in return, we've got to seriously consider it. He's going downhill fast.

I really liked Kilger tonight. Something you rarely notice on television, is that he really does hit hard, and often. He finishes every check with authority...and isn't afraid of a little contact.
