Fabian Brunnstrom?

Post#1 » by bryant08 » Sun Jan 20, 2008 2:18 pm

Reportedly the Leafs are in the running for this 22 year old prospect, he's having a great season in Sweden as a rookie, with 30 points in 36 games. Ken Campbell in the past has compared him to Daniel Alfredsson, and at this point, he can just be signed, and does not have to go through the draft process.

^That's his profile

He and his agent shortlisted Toronto, along with the Canucks, and the Red Wings as teams he'd possibly sign with. This is floating around the media in a couple places, ie. in an article by Alec Brownscombe this morning:

^That blog has some interesting points in it as well, so I'd take a look.

They were talking about it during the 2nd intermission yesterday... seems like a good idea if he pans out.

Never hurts to put a flyer out there

Do you know how to pronounce his name in french? faitbien! Hope he does!

Apparently the Leafs could have had him last year more cheaply but insisted he come to the Ricoh center even when Leaf scouts said leaving him at home for a year would be better.

This is a very interesting case especially in regards to Mats. With all this talk about signing a extension and the hype that this Bruunstrom kid is getting Its not far fetched to think there is a connection. Bruunstrom by many scouts is said to be equilvalent right now to adding a top 15 pick (first rounder) and can step right in and at worst be a top 6 forward on almost anyteam. Earlier in the year the Leafs scouts were actually the first to find this kid seeing he came out of nowhere and there head euro scout suggested to JFJ to sign him but Ferguson declined and passed. Leafs are said to me courting the most along with the Canucks and I wonder if there thinking is if we keep around Sundin its a real bonus in trying to aquire Bruunstrom in that you can tell him if he signs with the Leafs he will be able to play on a line with his countrymen Sundin. Im not sure how good this kid is but here are some quotes from some scouts.

He's 22, it certainly doesn't hurt giving him a contract even if he doesn't work out for us. If he does, great.

The fact that the Red Wings are really interested in him also makes me feel comfortbale that he's a legit talent.
