Philly is interested if Forsberg cant play. Talk among league execs is they may be willing to part with Jeff Carter and a 1st.

Canucks and Flames have recently sent out scouts to watch the Leafs. Canucks may be willing to give up highly prized prospects (G Cory Schneider or D Luc Bourdon) and draft pick(s) if Sundin will agree to sign an extension.

They really arent that prized as both prospect is not in the elite category. Id expect Kesler+ first for Sundin from Vancouver.

Forsberg fetched more last year with no such extention. I would be very surprised if whoever came in to the Gm spot this week (sound like Fletcher will be nomed as early as tomorrow) didn't get more then what Forseberg got, without any such pre-discussion with Sundin.

I have read that Vancouver would part with Kesler, Bourdon and a 1st if Toronto did the deal now. I would do that deal, but I'd try to get anotrher pick- maybe a second next year- or something.

that deal kind of sucks but it's better than nothing

as long as we start rebuilding I'm happy

Sundin is as sure a thing as it gets- 50+ points, 1st line centre, face-offs, PK, PP, Leader....any intangilbe aside from fighting is there in spades. Niether Kesler or Bourdon have distinguished themselves at the next level- Bourdon is showing inconsistency and Kesler has yet to take the next step. Nothing we are getting is a sure-thing in that package and the pick will be a late one.

Kesler for sure has distinguised himself at this level, hes been the Canucks 4th best player this season behind the Twins and Luongo. The guy has been a machine and one of the best checking line 3rd centers in the league. If he was put in a scoring role more then being a checker on a defensive team, he would put up about 45-50 pts this season. Stats dont justify how effective Kesler has been so far this season.

The Nucks arent even sitting in a playoff spot right now so even with a Sundin addition they could still be giving up a pick around 18-22 and thats in a very strong deep draft. Thats a decently better offer then the Flyers got for Forsberg last year at the deadline.

Those of you who wouldnt take Kesler, Bourdon and 1st for Sundin, are completely clueless.

Yes sundin is the leafs best player, but he is 37, having sundin gives you no chance at building for the future, you have no cap space, therefore you cant bring in younger players.

this whole team and 75% of its fan base are hopeless, i am sorry.

With Crosby out for up to 2 months and Roberts looking like he's done, I'd be on the phone to PITT pretty quick if I was Fletcher.

Like it or not, Sundin's been floated as a possible target for the Penguins. They've lost players and are in the thick of a divisional race. If you're going to try and leverage them, I could think of worse times than now.

I dont' think we can get kessler or staal. We'll probably have to settle for something closer to the philly rumor. Carter and a bad pick

I just dont think you are going to get jordan staal for sundin.

Also when you deal superstars you usually like to go to the other conference, just my thinking.

Sundin would be a great mentor on that team, I just dont think that Pens are that short sighted to try and go for it this year. I think this is their year where they keep their young guys together and let them win as a group, teach their core guys how to win in the playoffs, and next year, make a move to go for the cup, this year is not the penguins cup year, you have to be patient in building a championship team.

you dont consider Jeff Carter a top young player?

The problem is that they are too loyal to Mats. I'm sure they have been hearing loads of offers for him but won't do anything because Mats wants to stay.

Mats has got to be one of my fave Leafs of all time but if he wants to do what's best for this team then he should let them trade him away. There is no chance this team will be a cup contender for years to come so he should go somewhere where he has a chance of winning. Screw this loyalty stuff.

that is where our views on players differ
I think Jeff Carter is a better player than both of those guys.

to each their own.

What worries me even more is that last years trade deadline deals did nothing for the teams involved. I hope there is no backlash based on that.
