lets hear some ideas of what each person would like to see as next years team. Doesnt have to be exact to the cap hit but try to keep it realistic in the cap being shedded in trades to whats coming back this way also. You can have 2 trades, offseason FA signing and one draft pick (assume its the #3 pick and you cant select either Stamkos or Doughty.

1.)Mats Sundin to Vancouver for Ryan Kesler, Luc Bourdon and 2008 first round pick.

2.) Pavel Kubina to San Jose for Joe Pavelski, 4th round pick.

3.) Offer Antoine Vermette a nice RFA ofher sheet

4.) Draft Alex Pietrangelo

This team prolly is similar to this years version of the Sabres, very young, lots of speed, good goaltending just not quite enough to be a playoff team but have alot of room to grow and a high ceiling. Then next year we go to the draft again and hope to get another cornerstone piece and then after that season the Core of this team should look dangerous and at that point we can make trades or signings to insert the right veterans to help in the playoffs. So basically this is a commitmant to a 2 year plan of rebuilding. Tuckers only still on my team because I think it will be hard to deal at the deadline with his pricetag, maybe not though we'll see.

Why in the heck would you target the RFA market? That's costing us picks, and Ottawa would definitely match any reasonable offer for Vermette (unless you're entering $4-5M territory, where you would rather just throw out an offer and jack up the price for a guy like Perry). I doubt San Jose gives up Pavelski, and you should be looking for a higher pick from Vancouver. Aside from that, it's not too shabby. (BTW Kesler is not a first line C, but just a really solid role player to fill your 2nd/3rd)

I forgot about the compenstation youd have to give up for a RFA. If we offered Vermette a offer sheet and Ottawa declined to match, how many picks would we forfit? I could see San Jose giving up Pavelski, he has been very imconsistant and even a player like Torrey Mitchell has passed him on the depth chart. How would we get a higher pick from Vancouver? Im asking for there first rounder which will be there highest pick in the draft. Kesler isnt a first line center on 95% of teams in the league but on a rebuilding team he could easily occupy that role and give you about 60 pts a season at C , which would be okay with me seeing our goal wont be making the playoffs compared to developing young players. His offensive skills are being greatly held back in vancouver because of the teams style and his linemates.
