Rumours Thread.

Leafs sending forward Nik Antropov, defenseman Bryan McCabe and goaltender Andrew Raycroft to a Western Conference team. Presumably they would get prospects and picks in return.
Pipe dream by one of Leaf Nation?

Do we want to sticky a rumours thread?
Or at least an actual trades thread?
Or does it matter here?

I'll sticky this, that's fine. However, I'm going to need everyone to post links and quotes for any rumour posted on here.

Good idea. When we get closer to deadline perhaps we might want to unsticky this one and you can sticky one for actual trades.

Im not sure what team from the west would be interested but I know the Avalanche have been talking for awhile about adding a elite puckmoving defencemen since Liles has had a very mediocre season. They could also use some some added size up front. They also have some interesting prospects and young players in (Wolski, Hensick, Shattenkirk, Svatos)
Wolski, Shattenkirk and a 1st round pick would be a good offer.

I cannot wait for Tucker to be gone

... anywhere ... Ricoh centre even ... except for the impact he would have on the boys in the room. If no one wants him I would send him home. That guy is the sort of mouth piece that kills a room.

Apparently he will not waive his no trade clause.

I would point to him that he will remain in TO and ask him to make sure he knows how to get to the Ricoh center.

This idea is prevalent out there. The No Trade Clauses are serioulsy going to hamper MLSE's ability to make trades at the deadline.

I was told by a friend that Fletcher stated that he will not embarrass the vets by sending them down. What a great choice to revamp the team and set up for the next GM.
The vets have had no problem embarrassing themselves with indifferent play and lack of interest in the welfare of their GM and head coach. Just lovely!
What a mess!

What a mess, indeed.
The only rumour I'm really interested in following is the Sundin to Vancouver scuttlebutt. Since I'm currently in Canucks country, it'd be great to have my favourite Leaf playing on the hometown squad. Plus, he wouldn't be on the Leafs anymore, so perhaps they'd be starting to rebuild... or tear down... or whatever is required to turn the Leafs into a competitive team.

That rumour of Redden's refusal to allow a trade is perhaps a foreshadowing about what is to come. On top of that, Fletcher does not even have the balls to ask his group of
entitled Leafs. I am beginning to believe there is no hope for this mess ever being fixed.

lots of rumours about the Flyers signing Forsberg and the fact they also want to add a puckmoving defencemen. Obviously they would be interested in Kaberle as he is prolly the best defencemen possibly on the market. what about a deal like this.
Kaberle, Chad Kilger for Jeff Carter, Claude Giroux and 2008 first round pick

I would have a tantric moment.

I think Carter is the most aquireable young player right now seeing he seems to be caught behind both Briere, Richards and now possibly Forsberg if makes a return. Only thing is Carter will be a restricted free agent this offseason and we would most like have to be ready to match a offer sheet from another team.
if kaberle, Antropov, sundin are in play for teams to trade for Carter would be a good addition going forward.

It's my understanding that Anaheim is poised to present Cliff Fletcher with the type of "blow-your-socks-off" package that the veteran GM has intimated Sundin will be open to considering. San Jose, Calgary, Detroit, Vancouver, Minnesota and Ottawa are also said to be discussing big-time offers for the Leafs' captain.

I just hate using Eklund as a source but read this...
Another source told me tonight that he was told that a "Sundin deal was in place and it was MUCH bigger than anyone expected. In fact it will be shocking to the hockey world."

The Leafs offered Jason Blake and McCabe to the Islanders, but apparently Fletcher wanted too much in return.
The source is Darren Dregger

Maybe the Rangers will bite. Or perhaps it is early in the process and someone is negotiating through the media.

The Islanders are not a very good trading partner, as far as prospects go, the top one being Kyle Okposo and it sort of drops off, to Jeff Tambellini, who is a pretty good prospect but Okposo is the prize and their draft choices are middle of the road too...
Having said all that, a straight up trade, Blake for Tambellini would be ok but I think keeping McCabe should be a consideration, as he plays 26-27 minutes a game and could probably be dealt somewhere else, for lots more but of course his NMC precludes dealing him, unless he ok's the move, so I think, he will be staying here...
Dealing players for salary dump only, doesn't make sense because in the scheme of things McCabe's Salary is high but actually in line with players of his skill, he is a workhorse and should be kept.
A better candidate to trade, would be Kubina, he is a good defenseman but his salary doesn't warrant his on ice performance but a team looking for a good D signed for a few years, may bite and offer something reasonable in return...
