If a guy like Brain Campbell is going to get a deal that sees him making $25-$30 millilon over 5 years then I wouldn't move Kabrle
The reason some people want to trade him is because they'd like to see a all out rebuild and hes the one player who would bring back the kind of return that could greatly help you build a great new core. If this team did the right thing and commited to a 2-3 season rebuild where your draft picks and young players are receiving alot of quality icetime. Just look at how Chicago had developed there young defencemen, they pretty much gave them Seabrook and Keith top blueline minutes right off the bat and now there one of the best young 1-2 defence pair in the league. I could easily watch a season of McCabe, Stralman, Kubina, Coliacovo and our first rounder who will most likely be a defencemen.
Kaberle might be the better player but I think this season has shown some fans that McCabe is a valueble player to this team and the Leafs took a major dive in the standings once he got injured in Montreal. Id also rather have him around to mentor the young players in the next 1-2 years because hes been said to be a very good player in the dressing room and a good leader. Once some fans get over his pricetag they will realize thats he still a good player in this league.
The reason Kaberle could be traded is Fletcher likes what he could possibly get back more then the thought of keeping Kaberle around while the next few years could be rebuilding ones. There are alot of teams right now that could greatly do for a puck moving defencemen (Philly had a deal on the table and Kaberle nixed it, but I wouldnt be suprised if it was something like Jeff Carter, Claude Giroux and 2008 first rounder for Kaberle). Now trading Kaberle hurts in the near future, but does that return make us a better team in the longrun?
