Trade Deadline Prediction - Will He or Won't He?

Since it's been so quiet on the trade front, I'm not going to wait to see what's going to happen - I'm going to pull out the crystal ball to see the (very near) future.

My gut feeling is that Sundin will agree to be traded. Despite the fact I don't think he should feel this way, I think he's going to feel some obligation to go with everything that's going on in the press and in management. And I think he also realizes that even if he stays this year, the end is near for him in Toronto with the direction the team is headed. If he plays here next year, chance are he's going to have to go through this all over again. I think if he stays, it's because he plans to retire in the very near future.

If Sundin goes, I think Kaberle will likely follow, which pains me because he might be my second favorite player in the NHL. My train of thought is the same - it's likely to happen sooner rather than later for him. The only difference is that for Sundin it's because his contract is short (expiring this year, probably a 1 or 2 year if he returns), for Kaberle there's the 'hole' in his no-trade. The other guys with no-trades have long-term contracts without loopholes that I'm aware of, so if they're really determined to stay, there's nothing the Leafs can do. Although, if the situation in the team gets miserable enough, they'll be begging to get out a year from now.

I also think you'll see just about anyone up for grabs except for Toskala, Stajan, Steen, and the rookies. Not that you'll get much for most of those guys.

I can't wait to see what actually happens! :D

I also think hes going to waive it because he thinks thats what the fans and management want but I believe he actually does want to stay and is willing to go down with the ship which I grealty admire. Theres nothing Id like more to see Mats get traded and return in the summer to be the teams #1 center and the #2 center is Steven Stamkos. That would be awesome having Mats back for one last season to mentor Stamkos and then pass the torch the next season to him.

I really hope this team does everything it can to land Stamkos.

I say he stays. But I am really really hoping that he does waive the clause. Selfish perhaps but who in the world wouldn't want a shot at the Stanley Cup. But I think it would have to be either Anaheim or Detroit. Not sure any other team is nearly close enough at this time.

There is a saying in life, "If you love someone, set them free. If they come back they're yours; if they don't they never were." -Richard Bach. If Mats really loves Toronto and the Leafs then waive your no trade clause.

Sundin -
''The Leafs gave me a chance to think about it but as I said, my position hasn't changed since the start of the year.

''I have to do what feels right in my heart. I just don't think I can go to another team if I don't want to play for another team. That wouldn't be right to myself. That's how I feel right now.''

doesnt look like hes going anywhere.
