Now that the Leafs season is done for, and have nothing to play for... I made a thread for the offseason.
Just so the board doesn't get cluttered with threads...Post all offseason news or interesting rumours/stories in this thread.

Rumours are that the Leafs scouting staff likes Kyle Beach. Id rather not draft him seeing he's been known as a loose cannon/locker room cancer and also has a history of concussion problems. I hope Zach Bogosian somehow falls to our pick on draft day or hopefully we trade up for him. Id also like to see us make some sort of trade for a younger proven winger, possibly someone like Martin Erat.

I really want Schenn and I will be extremely angry if we draft Beach. His attitude towards the under 18 team last year being "team Ontario" rubbed me the wrong way. I do not want him on the team even if we can get him in the 2nd round.

I really hope the Leafs are able to move up to a top 3 spot in this draft.
While it's likely that we could attain a solid NHL player, keeping a #8-13 pick significantly decreases our chance of getting that "franchise" guy to build around.
Stamkos looks like a stud and would be a fantastic replacement to Sundin as our offensive leader (if only we could somehow get that #1!)

There are a ton of players I'd love to pick in the top portion of the draft. I'm looking forward to seeing where exactly we pick, just to gain a general idea of who we're looking at.

This article by Scott Cullen of TSN is a good summery of the Leaf's and their needs, in Drafting and UFA acquisitions and although it is pretty in depth, it could go in a very different direction and depends on a lot of factors, like the new GM and Coach and lots of other factors and he does elude to these things, in the article...
http://www.tsn.ca/columnists/scott_cullen/?id=236926
I don't think Pogge is ready yet to take over the back-up Goal tending, Clemmenson has been the go to guy for the Marlies in the play-offs and Pogge could do with another year in the AHL, Raycroft should be sent to the Marlies and if he doesn't improve there, should be let go next year...
This summer is going to be very interesting, things like will Sundin re-sign can Blake be moved and who will we draft, forward or defenseman and of course who is the new GM and Coach...

Who would you guys like as your management team/coaches once you'd like our rebuilding to commence? I'm thinking something like this:
Brian Burke (brought on next season)
Dave Nonis (GM, for this entire season)
John Tortorella (Coach)
I'm not really sure about the coach yet, but Burke/Nonis are best friends and would do a fantastic job together in fixing the team from scratch. Tortorella doesn't take any **** and has pretty good hockey sense. I just don't see who else could really put take the team to the next level (some say Pat Burns, I'm not a fan, if Barry Trotz is available [did he sign an extension] why not?).

I agree
I think they will hire Nonis as GM and then next year when Fletcher is supposed to retire, they will get Burke to take over in his capacity, as the GM in charge of operations and so it makes sense that if Nonis takes over as GM and Burke is to come in next year, we will have 2 GM's, They have been saying they may hire 2 people for the position all along...
As far as the coaching position goes, they have retained Keith Acton and he could help any coach taking over the team, I do like Pat Burns as coach and if Burke comes next year, he could change the coach if it doesn't work out...
Remember this transformation is not going to happen in one year, it will take several years to build a good team and although this sounds very convoluted it does make sense to a certain degree...

I've actually changed my mind. If Quenneville is on the outs, bring him in, he could do wonders for our young roster (when it becomes young

).
