this is pure speculation on my part but after you watch tv analysts like Mike Milbury (who is good friends with Burke) and Bill Watters make small comments about Burke heading to Toronto to be GM once the playoffs end its hard to ignore. It would make sense on Burkes part seeing he's a guy who loves a challenge and would want to be in the biggest hockey market in the world. How would everyone feel if he became this teams next general manager?

Burke is flat out the best GM in the league. I truly believe he is about winning rather than making money, and would do wonders for this team in a short period of time. I'd gladly welcome Brian Burke as GM of the Leafs.


Although, in fact, I am one of the few JFJ supporters out there, so what do I know?? I'd be happy with them hiring him back again, lol.

I don't care for some of Burke's opinions and interviews at times, but it's hard to argue that he's one of the best. I'd welcome him as Leafs GM in a second. If Burke expresses interest in the job, the Leafs should drop whatever else they're doing and bring him in instantly.

I hadn't been taking the Burke talk seriously, but there definitely seems to be at least a little something to it based on all the chatter around the league.

If the Leafs' board won't grab him because he's a good GM, they should grab him because of his value in stomping out the criticism for everything they have (and haven't) done. There would be a Colangelo-like grace-period where fans, media, etc. would be patient regardless of the performance of the team, because there would be confidence things are headed in the right direction.

Of course, the reason for hiring him SHOULD be that he's a good GM, but we've seen in the past that this in not the most important qualification for MLSE.

If their talking money, sounds like something they have thrown out there to set the table, for what a GM may expect if hired, even if it isn't Burke and I doubt it is, until at least after the play-offs and the dust has settled...

Vancouver too will make an offer but 5 years 30 million, may scare them off and may be why this info is out there but there are deep pockets out there too in the Aquilini's, so...

Burke's main attraction in coming would be to be closer to his family, the big bucks, and that his wife would surely get a job in television in Toronto. He'd have plenty of control and this is a guy that loves to take risks. I think he's the best guy out there for the job because he's just not afraid to make moves like many others GMs.

Burke's staying in Anaheim.
No big loss imo. He's highly overrated. Murray built that Ducks team and it's pretty hard to lose when you have that good young core handed to you and you go out and get the third best defenceman in the league to pair with the second best.
I'll give him credit for getting Pronger, but he was lucky JFJ was so dumb and wouldn't include Steen.

I think Burke is overrated as well and will not be upset at all if does not come. I want a GM who is good at spotting young talent and will do well in the draft. That Bobby Ryan pick bugged me at the time and it is looking like I was right. I do not want him in charge of making our draft picks. He also has no problem trading young talent away and we do not have much as it is.
