Why should the Leafs take Sundin back?

As much as I love Mat and what he has done for Toronto. Mat is not going to be a part of their future. So why should they committ that kind of salary to him.
It's not sufficient for the leafs to just make the playoffs and then get embarassed and kicked out in the first round.
This team needs to be in full rebuilding mode. The goal has to be winning the Stanley Cup and nothing else. Not just making a profit.
We could use that money on young long term piece. Time to bring respect back to this city.
What do you think?

I agree; let him sign in Montreal. You can at least take pride knowing that your former captain helped a rival win it all. :P

Management will welcome him back with open arms for a couple of reasons. One, he makes the team more watchable and will win them a few more games. Two, he takes some of the attention off of the GM who isn't really rebuilding and the upper management who are a bunch of buffoons when it comes to the competitive side of the sport. It gives them a good image with the fans, and that is what they care about. As long as they look good, that's all that matters.

Of course, they SHOULD let him go. Bringing him back affects the potential draft pick, gives some people delusions this team can be something, and most importantly, prevents the team from moving on to the next stage of its evolution. He never should have received a contract offer in the first place.
