Leafs pick up Brad May

Brian Burke made his first move as general manager of the Toronto Maple Leafs on Wednesday, acquiring forward Brad May from his former club the Anaheim Ducks.

In exchange, the Ducks receive a conditional sixth-round draft pick in 2010. The move reunites May and Burke for the third time, after sharing stints with the Ducks and Vancouver Canucks.

Not a bad trade here. We essentially recieved him for nothing. The condition on the pick is...if he re-signs with us, we owe them our 6th round pick.

I like May, he'll give us some toughness and leadership around the kids.

AND on the bright side, we sent Kulemin down to the Marlies to make room for May. He really needed to be sent down. He'll get some nice playing time down there, and hopefully gain some additional NA pro experience for next season.

I'm puzzled as to why we have Hollwig, Mayers, Deveux on this team. I really think Cliff was smoking the wacky-tabacky when he dealt draft picks for frickin Mayers and Holwig. Deveux has "Tie Domi" syndrome and thinks he's here to score goals for some reason, when he's supposed to be getting some space and respect for the little Euro's who need to wheel through the neutral zone. Problem is, he's a speed bag and can't do anything against the top tier of enforcer in the NHL.

May will help set the tone but he isn't going to scare anyone, except maybe the super pest guys like Steve Ott who is a complete ass clown of a player. I like him but he's like about 4 years overdue- still better then what we have though and he gets to come home for his 1000'th game if he can get another 37 in before the end of the year.

We need to make a trade for someone in the AHL to come up here and fight. Luke Schenn should not be taking on guys at 19 years old. Branden Sugden who plays with Hartford's Wolfpack is the perfect kind of guy IMO. Local guy, can fight, can skate and is young enough to stick around for a while and know his role. I'm sure we could get him for a song too. A guy like him would definitely let the skilled players play in a (how Burke puts it) "Fear free environment".
