Future Draft Picks

Post#1 » by Luv those Knicks » Thu Jun 27, 2024 3:35 am

Because . . . why not.

2 2nd round picks tomorrow (2024) - everyone knows that.

2025 :

No firsts, unless Wiz or Pistons picks convey - probably not.

Grizzlies' 2nd, Nets 2nd (via Atlanta - Knox/Reddish trade). - EDIT, the Nets 2nd went back to Jersey, so just one.

2026:

They have their first

and probably Three 2nds. (Knicks 2nd went to Detroit in that draft day swap to clear Kemba Walker cap space, but that got us Brunson, so all good).

Warriors, Pistions (unless first rounder conveys in 2025) and Wizards (same) - EDIT, The Detroit & Wash pick have additional years and protections - details in later posts.

2027:

No first

4 2nds

Knicks
Wolves (via OKC)
and both the most favorable and least favorable out of (OKC, Houston, Miami, Indiana) - yup, it's that confusing, but also via OKC.

So, as of right now, next 3 seasons

1 first, 9 2nds. It is what it is.

Corrections welcome if I got anything wrong.

I’m pretty sure the 25 Nets second went back to BK as part of the Bridges trade

Call me crazy but I think the DET pick ends up conveying in 2027.

well atleast there will be a reason to watch the summer league the next few years. like a legit reason

2nd round pick contracts dont have to be offered as fully guaranteed so those kids drafted by us are gonna play. and be very competitive in SL.

I think you're right about that, and NY lost their 2025 2nd rounder for tampering (Brunson was so worth it).

So, 1 2nd rounder next year baring more trades.

I wasn't crystal clear on the protection of the Detroit & Washington first rounders. Those might extend past 2026.

NBAdraft.net has the full trade details.

Piston's pick: Top 13 protected, 2025 (probably not), Top 11, 2026, top 9, 2027. Has a chance for 2027, small chance 2026. Becomes a 2027 2nd if it doesn't convey.

Wizard's pick: Top 10 protected 2025 (probably not), Top 8, 2026, if not by then (2026 has a shot), then it becomes 2 2nds, 2026 & 2027.

So, playing the most likely wait for Detroit & Washington to get enough wins:

2025: Grizzlies' 2nd rounder

2026: Knicks First, Wizards' first or 2nd, Warrior's 2nd. Guaranteed 3 picks this draft. (baring trades, of course, that's just capital for now).

2027: 4 2nds guaranteed. Shot at Detroit first, but that could fall to 2027, and Wizards' 2nd is a possibility. 5 2nd rounders is a distinct possibility. That'll be interesting.

Detroit runs through 2027 - top 13, top 11, top 9. Was really hoping Reed fell to them last night instead of another guy who can’t shoot. I think that roster has talent and their ownership doesn’t have a desire to tear it down and start over.

Washington runs through 2026 - top 10, top 8. I thought Washington had a great draft night but they are just starting their rebuild.

I seriously don't get the attitude that picks shouldn't matter because we're trying to win now

Like, we have to fill out the back end of the roster anyways, might as well do it with guys who could potentially develop. Even if they don't, I'd rather have 5 Jericho Sims than 5 Dylan Windlers, and you gotta think they'll hit on one Miles McBride in there somewhere

For a team whose franchise player went in the 2nd, and 3 of the other 9 rotation players were 2nd round picks, you'd think Knicks fans would understand why taking shots in the 2nd is worth it.
BaF Lakers:

Nikola Topic/Kasparas Jakucionis
VJ Edgecombe/Jrue Holiday
Shaedon Sharpe/Cedric Coward
Kyle Filipowski/Collin Murray-Boyles
Alex Sarr/Clint Capela

Bench: Malcolm Brogdon/Hansen Yang/Rocco Zikarsky/RJ Luis Jr.

I love draft picks. Part of the reason I made this thread was I was curious and I wanted to nail down their draft picks in the future.

2027 they could get a Detroit first or second and a wizards second, so

1 pick - 2025 (2nd)
3 picks - 2026 (probably a first and 2 2nds)
4 guaranteed in 2027 (all 2nds) with a good chance the Detroit pick lands here (first or 2nd), and a chance at the wizards 2nd. Could be 6 picks.

There's some draft capital there and I know I made 4 errors above. This is a lot to keep track of for my tiny brain.

2nd round picks are important. Remember, the Suns traded like 6 2nd round picks for Bradley Beal. So maybe they still have value in trades lol.

We have a lot of depth now.

Jokic, Ginobili, Rodman, Green, Marc Gasol, Toni Kukoc, Middleton were all 2nd rounders... Just saying, we could get a gem. I think as a better team, it's easier to develop a 2nd round pick because they don't have as much pressure and they have more of a designated role. I have no evidence to back this up. It's just a theory.

So 9 2nd round picks in our 3 year window is pretty awesome, imho.
