If I have 2 million in savings and I have two job offers. The first offer is for 350k with NO percentage of the profits of the business. The second offers is 60k with 5% of gross revenue.
The fact that I already have "money" puts me in a position to take the second offer- if I find it appealing. If I have no savings and a full family to feed- even if I dont like the work environment and or 1st offer - I have to take the offer and take care of my family.

This is just crazy lol. Very few NBA players ever take pay cuts. And if they do, we are talking like 5-10%. Not 50%.

Can you give me one example where this has ever happened?

As much as I like iHart. End of the day, he's just a role player for us. If anybody is going to take a pay cut for the Knicks, it will likely be Brunson doing something like Dirk did for the Mavs or Duncan for the Spurs. I can see Brunson (or maybe Randle) doing something like this, because I wouldn't be surprised if they retire as a Knick. And Dolan would then throw them a backloaded contract when they are in their mid-30s. I could never see a scenario like this for iHart.

Guys like iHart don't willingly take pay cuts. Nor should they. NBA owners should pay fair value for player contacts.

And he's going to a team that are equal to or better than the Knicks.

This was a no-brainer decision for iHart.

Hartenstein can take the extra $Millions and play for any team he wants, but he can't take the name iHart with him. That's ours, and without it, he's just sHart.

Guys - I like y'all both, but y'all underestimating the money

That's definitely like 90-95% of the reasoning.

Yes, because if the money we could have offered were the same he'd still almost certainly be a Knick.

I’m not sure if we had the option to match that contract that we would. Could cause all kinds of problems with other contracts coming due.

Agreed. Was speaking more from his perspective, not our FO which is managing their spend

He did fade in the playoffs though. I think we'll severely miss his passing however.

Keep in mind Ainge has also been rumored to not being too fond of the idea of dealing with NY. As the Knicks are likely Boston's biggest threat and their only "hole" right now is the backup Center position, he may be extra reluctant to "help" out the Knicks here....we may have to look elsewhere because the WAS + DET FRPs were really a good offer. There is no doubt that come trade deadline that package will fetch our 20minutes backup Center. There are quite a few teams with a crowded Center rotation that will be looking for additional assets and the tank in february.

thibs has to adjust his offense. i expect we won't though and will just play through randle more - though his screens aren't great.

ihart was great with the dribble hand off and set good screens. mitch has no hands so this play doesn't work well with him. with randle it can work but he's more of a lazy screener that will look to pop more than roll.

have to hope thibs can be more creative with the guys we have now. more off ball cutting etc - but seems like thibs doesn't believe in that offense.

I think they already know what they’re doing, just working on something bigger at the same time.
