Re: Breaking: Tom Fired
Not that I'm endorsing him but again surprised not hearing Frank Vogel's name, grew up in Jersey, defensive coach, won title in biggest spotlight, and pretty sure he was going to get the job before Hornacek talked Phil into a new version of the Triangle. Not to mention the Pacers would have been in the Finals back to back years if it wasn't for the Heatles super team and still took them to 6 and 7 games.

god shammgod wrote:they made it pretty clear that kat knew what the defensive coverages were and didn't execute them. hard to blame thibs for that.
This the biggest bombshell. Turns out Thibs wasn't running a drop, KAT just refused to come to the level of the screen.
And once again the Knicks make a move to chase more offense after losing due to our defense. 2 straight years doing that dumb ****.

Begley said two more really interesting things:
He could see Rick Brunson staying with the team, as only Thibs coaching tree assistants would be let go.
He also sees Thibs' best opportunity to return to the NBA would be as a defensive coaching assistant.

You didnt have Jalen Brunson.
Thibs elevated his PGs repeatedly in Chicago.
Derrick won an MVP with him
John Lucas III was highly productive with us and a bum pretty much his entire career otherwise
DJ Augustine was in the d League then was playing awesome for us and the following year
Nate Robinson rejuvenated his career with us and fell off
I'm sorry but Brunson was elevated by Thibs just like those dudes were. It isn't to say he's not awesome but Thibs helped him raise his level quite a bit and we'll see how things shake out without him.
This is because Thibs has no offensive system so PGs by default get to play their game. Thibs offensive coaching is ass, make no mistakes.

Thibs coached Brunson in the playoffs for the Mavs?
Knicks FO identified the talent on the rise and they and Thibs gave him more minutes, which = more stats.
Credit to Thibs for having a pretty one player centric offense though. That helped Brunson's stats too.

My biggest issue with Thibs is Mitch. I thought he was on a minute restriction or something especially since we were running Precious/KAT lineups. Mitch should've started way earlier.
But in the preseason he was referring to Mitch as his starting C, so idk what was happening there.

I know you love Thibs...you should be rooting for your Bulls to get the guy. Yall have been wandering in the wilderness too long.
I say this without any irony, too.

Those are the two choices; this is how this FO works.
Either one of them made the case to Leon and he's already chosen.

If you could pick any name available out there who would feel great?
Personally I like the JVG idea and the Bryant idea, both offer different things. Id take either.
Johnnie Bryant, Head Coach
Jeff Van Gundy, Associate Head Coach?

Rick Brunson can be a consultant. Him being on any other staff will undermine the head coach and will turn into a new Herb Williams situation.
Thank you, Rick Brunson.

Leon : We're gonna have to let you go, thanks for everything.
Tom : But I helped give this franchise back to back 50 win seasons in decades.
Leon : I know
Tom : I helped get the team to the conference finals for the first time in decades, too.
Leon : I know, Tom, but I built you a team good enough to beat the defending champion Celtics.
Tom : Well, you should have built one good enough to beat the Pacers. Thanks for the $30mil, Thibs out!

If you'd rather see your team fail so you can be right
...you are a fan of your opinion not the team.

I was talking about AFTER you lost Thibs. You didnt have a Brunson. Look...Brunson has put up historical numbers that EVEN Rose didnt accomplish.
Not taking away anything from Rose but -I'm not interested in having a discussion with anyone who cant acknowledge what Brunson has accomplished-
that only 1 or 2 other players in NBA history has...

Luka | Conley | Delon W.
Suggs | Bane | Naw
Eason | Barnes | Naji
AD | Barnes | Eason
Mitch R. | Claxton | Jemison
