My money is on Thibs being the odd man out. IDK if it’s this summer or mid-season but I bet they make tweaks to stack the bench with defenders/shooters/fresh legs and if Tom refuses to adjust they just bring in Mike Malone.
This drunk Knick fan in the tunnel yelled “get us Giannis” to Leon and Leon looked disgusted. I don’t see them blowing up. IMO the weakest link and most vulnerable is Thibs.
Called it

Thibs is gonna get another shot next year, obviously. You'd have to be delusional to think otherwise. If he trusts the bench a little more next year, and starts to incorporate the sophomores, we're back in play to take the east again next year. I don't get all the doom and gloom. Some people need some mood stabilizers.
Wow, my take aged poorly.

Re: PG: Out of our Misery
My takes.
1. The timing of the firing was nuts. It was just 3 days after Saturday's elimination. Time-line could have been; a Team returned to NY Saturday night, Sunday to rest, Monday Thibs, as usual, goes into the office to meet with management and in the meeting with management the discussion begins and end with Thibs firing, the news is then released to Shams on Tuesday.
It was boom, boom, boom, this decision to move on was always discussed throughout the playoffs and it was either the Knicks come back in the ECF and move on to the FInals or the decision to move on from Thibs is executed.
2. It sucks to be Indiana. You made the Finals after so many years and all the sports outlets in America are speaking about your nemesis NY Knicks, lol. Good fk 'em.
3. Rick Brunson, stays or goes? It'll depend if Thibs gets offered an immediate job and then I can see Rick moving with him. In this case, Jalen will be cool about it, if not, and Dad is unemployed, then Jalen may resent the discount he took. But maybe not, his true competitive spirit is really about bringing a Chip to NY.
Interesting times. I remember how we would pivot to the draft after a disappointing season. Now it was successful season, but this off-season is already madd interesting.

No worries - a lot of us were blindsided. Many of us who criticized Thibs really appreciated him at the same time. 2 days before the firing, Shams Charania tweeted his job was stable but we'd make trades. And we can still enjoy having made it to the ECF after a 50 win season!
Johnny Bryant being considered for head coach in Phoenix may have made them move more quickly, but that's just speculation.

I believe half of the fanbase thought he was going to get another year and the other half thought he would be canned. I was in the latter camp because the chatter and writing on the wall did not look good for Thibs throughout the season and at times during the playoffs. I think that game 1 epic choke job was the final nail in the coffin. There was no coming back from that unless he was able to get the Knicks to win the IND series and win 1-2 games against OKC.
It's clear that Thibs and this roster was not an ideal fit. It's also clear that at least some of the players were not thrilled about playing for Thibs next season. I don't blame them.

I was in the camp that wanted Thibs fired, but had concluded it would not happen
then boom! he's gone

I didn’t think he would get fired, but if he did I wanted an upgrade. Jason Kidd would be disappointing. I’m holding out faith that Leon has a plan.

I agree. If it is not Bryant I hope for someone with a fresh outlook, possibly someone no one is even aware of. Just because you want to win a chip now doesn't justify playing anything safe. That's the absolute worst attitude to take into a coach search.
I doubt Rose is going to settle for the easy answer like Kidd. He just got rid of the conventional choice he already made in Thibs. I expect he's looking to find a real collaborator with something original to contribute
