Yep.
LOL is this a strategic move or are we trolling Shams?

Yep.

Memphis got 2 role players, 4 unprotected picks and also freed up space to sign a better defender like a Mikal (for instance) in his place. Or a 3 way where Knicks convert Mikal into something else, if they prefer, and then get JJJ.

It is known that this FO likes to call around and make mock trades frequently.
Could be one of those situations where Phoenix thought it was more serious than we actually did...
Or they used us as leverage

My only push back on that...is if we felt he was worth any type of trade and because of his salary I'm sure the Knicks aren't going around proposing no CBA compliant trade. So to match +50 in KD's salary they either had to put a couple big names or one big name in that trade (KAT). For KD to come out and say he's interested in the Knicks but the Knicks aren't interested in him. I doubt our level of interest changed much from the deadline to the offseason. It just is illogical.

A lot about the team could be different between then and now. Both what we know and don’t.

3 way deal, Grizz, Rockets, Knicks. Mikal to HOU, some of their young pieces + picks to MEM, JJJ to us. Get it done Leon!
Then trade Josh and Mitch for other pieces. Would love to bring back Donte, and Malik Monk would be the perfect off the bench scorer who can handle both guard spots. No more Cam Payne for Brunson's rest minutes! Use the taxpayer MLE on someone like Bruce Brown, Gary Trent Jr., Luke Kennard. sign Nance for the vet min

To me its just logic.
Some can't even see logic due to a narrow perspective

Most will dismiss it because its kinda lopsided. I cant blame them...because who wants to be disappointed?

The Stein Line has learned that the Knicks also would have featured on that list but were ultimately omitted when New York made it clear that it has decided against pursuing a trade for the NBA's No. 8 all-time leading scorer.
Love this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
He’s had his chance in 2019 but didn’t come!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
And he’s 37 years old!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Kat mikal and Og are all better anyway!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you Leon!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I would sell high on Ja. Don't think you can go far into the playoffs when he is one of your top 2 players.
Spectacular athlet and playmaker, but defense, shooting, health and off-court stuff are way too many red flags.
I don't see a crazy market for him, tho. Maybe teams like Brooklyn or Utah would cash assets in to have him as a ticket selling presence.
The Grizzlies are not looking to deal either of their two remaining franchise cornerstones, Ja Morant and Jaren Jackson Jr., sources told ESPN's Tim Bontemps. The team has spent the past several months clearing salary cap space to complete a renegotiation and extension of Jackson's contract this offseason, preventing him from hitting free agency in 2026. The belief is that an extension will get done, sources said. But the Bane trade gives Memphis an avenue to give Jackson even more on that deal and lock him in long term.

My immediate reaction on the Bane news was, Grizzlies knew they would get better value for Bane than Morant at this point, they need Ja to prove he’s in the right headspace. Memphis has now freed up enough cap flexibility to extend JJJ, which they should. The guy is only 25 so young enough to be relevant following a rebuild.
