Memphis got 2 role players, 4 unprotected picks and also freed up space to sign a better defender like a Mikal (for instance) in his place. Or a 3 way where Knicks convert Mikal into something else, if they prefer, and then get JJJ.

3 way deal, Grizz, Rockets, Knicks. Mikal to HOU, some of their young pieces + picks to MEM, JJJ to us. Get it done Leon!

Then trade Josh and Mitch for other pieces. Would love to bring back Donte, and Malik Monk would be the perfect off the bench scorer who can handle both guard spots. No more Cam Payne for Brunson's rest minutes! Use the taxpayer MLE on someone like Bruce Brown, Gary Trent Jr., Luke Kennard. sign Nance for the vet min

It is known that this FO likes to call around and make mock trades frequently.

Could be one of those situations where Phoenix thought it was more serious than we actually did...

Or they used us as leverage

Looks like the Knicks are stuck with KAT and Mikal. Maybe a new coach can make them care more.

My only push back on that...is if we felt he was worth any type of trade and because of his salary I'm sure the Knicks aren't going around proposing no CBA compliant trade. So to match +50 in KD's salary they either had to put a couple big names or one big name in that trade (KAT). For KD to come out and say he's interested in the Knicks but the Knicks aren't interested in him. I doubt our level of interest changed much from the deadline to the offseason. It just is illogical.

Very fair. I guess I'm looking at the language that KD would have put the Knicks on one of his preferred destinations but it was the Knicks that don't have interest in pursing the soon to be 37 year old.

The knicks basically have two options

KAT for KD straight up (which would be beyond risky for as much as people hate on KAT) your talking an all-star in his prime much healthier than KD.

or

Your basically gutting your depth....With the likes of some combo of Mikal, Hart, OG, or and/or Mitch.

Neither of these trades are really appealing which is why I don't think the Knicks FO is even entertaining the idea. WIth the CBA there are only a certain amount of pathways to a trade and they are either super risky or make no sense from a Knicks POV.

Lets do it!!!! Here is just one permutation (you can sub Mitch for Hart and add Konchar coming back to us if Hart is the preferred route by Memphis).....this can lead to potentially a Donte or Malik Monk trade next and of course maybe one of Trent Jr, Larry Nance, Simmons, Beasily or Oubre becoming our MLE piece.

If Memphis wants picks then the trade above is right up their alley. We also know Houston has wanted Mikal for a while. Knicks extend CAA client and close friend to Rose in JJJ.

Run it back again with new Head Coach Jenkins. Add some veteran players to the bench and play Kolek and Hukporti throughout the season. I feel like these two players can contribute along with Hart and Deuce off the bench.

Start the season with Mitch at center to pair him with KAT, OG, Mikal, and JB with Hart, Deuce, Kolek, and Hukporti off the bench.

I know Jenkins plays and relies on the bench so that’s a good sign for our entire roster.

I would sell high on Ja. Don't think you can go far into the playoffs when he is one of your top 2 players.
Spectacular athlet and playmaker, but defense, shooting, health and off-court stuff are way too many red flags.

I don't see a crazy market for him, tho. Maybe teams like Brooklyn or Utah would cash assets in to have him as a ticket selling presence.

My immediate reaction on the Bane news was, Grizzlies knew they would get better value for Bane than Morant at this point, they need Ja to prove he’s in the right headspace. Memphis has now freed up enough cap flexibility to extend JJJ, which they should. The guy is only 25 so young enough to be relevant following a rebuild.

The Grizzlies are not looking to deal either of their two remaining franchise cornerstones, Ja Morant and Jaren Jackson Jr., sources told ESPN's Tim Bontemps. The team has spent the past several months clearing salary cap space to complete a renegotiation and extension of Jackson's contract this offseason, preventing him from hitting free agency in 2026. The belief is that an extension will get done, sources said. But the Bane trade gives Memphis an avenue to give Jackson even more on that deal and lock him in long term.
