Because of the timing, we’re weeks away from the season starting and something that fizzled over the offseason not being reported until now screams “there’s no news so let’s share this bit of information that contains NY to generate interest”

The Knicks have had an eye on Antetokounmpo for the past couple of years under president Leon Rose, who heads a front office that built the franchise into a perennial playoff contender since taking over in 2020. People in league circles, including some in New York, have believed since 2024 that Antetokounmpo would eventually want to come to the Knicks if he ever explored a trade.

Even with that knowledge, the Knicks made a series of moves independent of Antetokounmpo's potential desires to try to move the franchise closer to a title. New York traded its treasure chest of draft picks to acquire Mikal Bridges from the Brooklyn Nets in June 2024, then sent Julius Randle, Donte DiVincenzo and a first-rounder to the Minnesota Timberwolves for Karl-Anthony Towns in early October 2024. The Knicks then signed Bridges to a four-year, $150 million extension this August, which makes him ineligible to be traded until February.

Those maneuvers left the Knicks' pool of nonplayer assets limited to one first-round pick, three pick swaps and eight second-rounders, essentially decimating their ability to make an overwhelming offer to Milwaukee. As is, the Knicks, who are coming off an appearance in the Eastern Conference finals for the first time in 25 years, enter the season as the co-favorites in the East along with the Cleveland Cavaliers.

It does mention that the Knicks never felt the Bucks were serious about dealing him, so maybe that's why. But you're begging for drama to report it this way.

That makes some sense. KAT is about as good as a team can expect for a star (at least in similar contract range) and they could throw in a rookie contract to make the salaries work. Spacing might be a work in progress, but that's nothing new to Knicks builds

So this looks like its coming from the Bucks side to appease Giannis. But the timing is off.

Shams reporting says we called in August. Mikal signed his extension end of July.

So really if MIL was series about trading Giannis they would have engaged convos way before one of our best assets got locked up.

Its not going to be KAT straight up for Giannis...why would MIL do that? MIL would want either Mikal or OG added to the trade clearly and at what point are you willing to gut our roster to go back to a Brunson/Giannis built. Josh Hart is not someone that MIL wants especially at his age and current injury concerns.

So your talking like KAT/OG/Deuce trade or offload a player to get more picks for MIL. MIL was probably never seriously consider moving him they just had to appease his reps to look into a trade.

And if Giannis really wanted a trade he should have made it publicly known. Otherwise he's giving all the leverage to MIL.
