It’s tough to hear someone so unprepared to do a media hit when they’re the commissioner of a sports league. Can’t imagine Goodell sounding like that. I’ll try to give silver the benefit of the doubt here cuz he doesn’t have access to all of the powers the federal government has. He obviously can’t wiretap and get witnesses to snitch. Or compel ppl to testify. The real test is going to be the Kawhi aspiration deal. There’s seems to be at least 10 employees willing to talk to the nba and give up documents. I’m sure Pablo has already given them everything he’s got already too.

They should just put a federal ban on sports betting. There is no way of regulating it if the players, coaches and referees are in on it. It should have stayed underground.

I don't think a complete federal ban solves anything honestly, that ship has sailed with 39 states now being legal havens for sports betting, and gambling will continue regardless of it being above or below ground.

Money line or spread betting isn't the issue because frankly it takes a legit conspiracy to truly fix games (like the 1919 World Series, and by all accounts the guys involved were a bunch of jackasses).

I think the main issue now is legal player prop betting, which is highly problematic for several reasons, as we see in the cases of Terry Rozier and Jontay Porter. This doesn't include the fact that gamblers literally harass players, including college kids, over these bets when they don't hit.

In regard to what Damon Jones did, you really can't control that regardless of gambling being legal or not. If someone knows LeBron is gonna load manage and tells the mob so they can bet against the Lakers, there's not much anyone can do about that outside of punishing the bad actors after the fact.

You don't have to fix an entire game anymore with prop bets. One player can change the outcome of thousands of bets by purposefully having a bad game.
