But if the Rockets feel their chances of convincing him are slim, they're not going to offer much, if anything.

Wow aside from the story, when you read the comments, those people reallyhate the Knicks.

Come back home Carmelo. New York needs you and you need New York.

If you read comments from the posters they hate the idea of Melo coming here as a free agent.

apparently we made an offer and it was shot down...i think that was a generous offer if you ask me Chandler, Fields, and a first rounder for Melo...I wonder if they just forgot to include Curry's contract or maybe DW is holding that for another time...

This is a nice article from the Bleacher Report basically stating the obvious and that is Denver may be overplaying their hand in regardsto Melo.

Carmelo has not made it any secret his destination is elsewhere, preferably New York, so it is foolish for the Nuggets to hold onto Carmelo. Even if the Nuggets have the money to retain Carmelo, which is highly unlikely, Carmelo is going to make his escape somewhat similar to Shaquille O'Neal leaving the Magic. The Magic had the chance to trade O'Neal, but they thought he was going to stay.

However, eventually, a player wants to have their chance to win, as did O'Neal when he bolted from Orlando to go to the L.A. Lakers. While there, he managed to win a NBA Championship with Kobe Bryant.

Carmelo knows he can not win in Denver, and his logical choice is the New York Knicks, where he can be Amare Stoudemire's Kobe.

If the Denver Nuggets general manager Masai Ujiri had any sense in him, he would look to unload Carmelo, and he would try to grab as much as he can in return for him. Carmelo is a huge star and he is a franchise player. This makes it understandable that Ujiri would like a lot in return for him, but he has to understand a team will not sacrifice their whole future for what possibly could be a rental player.

According to Alan Hahn, that offer is old news. It was allegedly the very first offer that Donnie put on the table earlier in the season. But Hahn now says that hewas told by a Knicks "Source" that offer was only a starting point then and nothing has been offered since. So in other words this supposed offer that Denver turned down was not a recent offer, it was the one talked about earlier in the season even before Denver started to deal with NJ.

makes sense...seemed like a lowball offer..i just want this deal to get done, its obvious we arent going to make much noise in the playoffs so we might as well trade for Melo, make the playoffs anyway and either hope one of our big men pan out or we can sign one in the offseason...maybe we can even get Nene in the Melo deal...that would be clutch

I think it's important to add to that it was offered earlier that this was when Denver may have been focused on doing a deal with NJ, and possibly NOT us.

Knicks get

Carmelo anthony

Denver get

Andre Iguodala
Thaddeus Young
1st philly
1st Ny

PHILLY GET

landry fields
wilson chandler
anthony randolph
Eddy curry

Why for philly?

They get cap relief and a power forward for the future in randolph. Landry fields is a no brainer. Wilson chandler is a rfa.

Why for denver?

They get Iguodala who can keep the team in the playoffs and young who can be a solid bench player. They also get 2 draft picks.

It's painfully obvious that this teams needs a 2nd go to guy.. Someone who can finish games. It's time to get MELO here. It's also obvious that our defense is very suspect, so our only other option is too out score teams. Right now we have no kind of a consistent scorer outside of STAT. This is something MELO can provide every night.

We can't wait til the off-season, this deal needs to get done asap...

this is what i thought would happen. these teams will be told by melo or his people that there's no way he resigns there. they'll either back out then or offer next to nothing.

Best trade scenario Knicks:

Mil trades: Andrew Bogut

NYK trades: Ronny Turiaf, Keleena Azubuike, Anthony Randolph

Knicks stil have near a max contract to offer this summer if they sign and trade for the star using Chandler.

Why on earth would MIL trade Bogut for crap?

Al Harrington may be a blessing to us actually. We could probably give up less in return if we take him on.

Keep in mind that "this is not a future thing." So I'm pretty sure Donnie would be willing to take on Al.

Not a Knicks fan, but I do read the board because I grew with a hardcore Knicks fan and he still is to this day.

Ahem.

That said, you guys got a f'n steal with Fields and he is my favourite player on your roster.

Walsh needs to think long and hard about moving him or Chandler or a pick for a guy that is not top house in the West.

Fields is a stud on a tiny contract, why would anyone want to move him? Don't get it.

And Melo is not going to bring you guys a Championship imo, so there.

I totally agree with you guys, I really think Harrington would thrive as the 6th man for us, and I know how people don't want Harrington cause of his previous stint here but it would be a completely different situation then before. He's not going to be a primary offense option like he was the last time he was here, he's gonna be, depending on the roster a 4th-5th scoring option. I feel that we would be getting a solid veteran bench contributer in Harrington.

There is lots to think about here. First, we cannot panic because of how we are playing. Of course some of the players are affected by the rumors. Its natural, and nobody is immune, including Carmelo.

New reports and quotes appearing every day suggest that CA is indeed willing to wait for FA and that he feels he can make up some of the money lost in endorsements. Really, we already knew this. The NBAPA also hopes that CA doesn't make a decision based on fear of salary Armageddon in the new CBA. The feeling is that Hunter will never agree to Draconian cuts to superstar salary.

The reason we are losing is because our two captains are trying to do too much. Amare and Felton need to share the ball and trust their teammates. Taking half the shots and shooting under 40% is not going to win many games. Give it up.

The offer to Denver was more or less fair under the circumstances. Maybe a substitution here or there but nothing more. Carmelo will come here as a FA so the offer shouldn't be more than we would have to renounce or sacrifice in July.

The armchair GMing here is weak sauce. The panic mode is EXACTLY what Denver hopes for. The key is to know all the circumstances and force the other guy to blink. NY knows. Denver is finding out. Nuggets HAVE to blink if NY (and Melo) stays strong.

Return to New York Knicks
