so you don't think novak or josh should have been in the game at all?

you're not gonna take out melo/tyson/amare at the end of a game. he could have brought in bibby. seriously though, not just in the 4th, we need our guards to make jumpers. it's the only reason they could stay in the zone. nobody can shoot.

Agreed.

If dantoni would have left Fields in the game, I can complain.

but Douglas and particularly Melo were missing shots that were good enough looks at the basket, at that point, it's on the players.

Defensively, we not rotating and switching well enough, maybe we need a new strategy defensively, but they're a really good outside shooting team.

Bottom line, we look good in spurts but not long enough to sustain against good teams that have played together for a long time.

It's gonna take more time.

Bibby should have been in the game when the Magic went zone. Shumpert, Toney, and Landry can't shoot right now.

They shouldn't have taken 35 threes at all. 6ers/Heat both chase shooters off the 3 point line...we can't do that.

this. don't make excuses for the defense. it's not unlucky what the knicks had. their lack of effort/knowledge/coaching was the reason the magic got all those 3's. don't make damn excuses for them desttro

and how the hell do the knicks not play defense against the outside shooters. in rec league, if a guy isn't hitting 3's, you back off. if he starts hitting, you get in his face and not let him shoot any more 3's.

yeah, GONYK, the magic just shot the hell out of the ball. but it was also because no one was defending them. the magic shooters did what they're paid to do. against any other team with a coach that makes adjustments, the magic are going to get pecker smacked

That's exactly my point. The Magic have shooters that actually make shots. We don't.

but that's offense. you and i were talking defense before.

but on the offensive end, you're 100% right. but jorts, novak, and bibby weren't given a chance to show they can do anything towards the end. that's not the players fault.

Mike got outcoached I'm not denying that.

I'm saying he also got out-talented. Hedo, Anderson and Reddick are better than JJ, Jorts, Bibby and Novak, no?

They scared now!

We should have hired Mike Brown. Our offense is nothing but isos with one guy taking every shot anyway, so he couldn't hurt us.

No the system is designed to get those shots. The system is successful in getting open looks from the perimeter. We just aren't knocking them down.

What is the alternative with no PG? Iso ball. Which also isn't working.

So what offense do you suggest that overcomes no playmaker and nobody making open shots?

So this system can only be successful when it's chuck full of good chuckers? So again, Mike D'Antoni is going to work for this team how again? Magic of television or wishful thinking?

What is the alternative with no PG? To play smart? How about that? Or basically what they didn't do in the 4th quarter...or were you maybe watching a different game than me? Oh wait...let me guess...D'Antoni wasn't playing right?

My big beef is with 6 minutes left, the magic go to a zone, and what does dantoni do? he goes with douglas? really, why not bring in harrelson along with novak.. why did we get him dantoni??? why!!!!!!!!!!! sit chandler, dwight was doing nothing, plus he can't hit FT's.. let amare guard dwight and let melo create and hit novak and jorts for shots.. shoot them out of the zone..

Honestly, if dantoni is going to mail it in.. just quit dude, QUIT!!! I watched vangundy go from Q richardson to earl clark trying to find matchups that work.. what do we do? we bench the best shooters while being stifled by zone...

yea, the players share some of the blame, amare still doesn't look comfortable, we missed open shots, but honestly, the coach didn't give us a chance to win....

To me, just trash the season if dantoni is going to mail it in!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The problem with our defense was apparent today. We want to defend, we move our feet, are active and everything (Melo, Chandler and Shumpert are spectacular at times). But we will never be a really good defensive team if we do not clear out our problems with the pick and roll. Every high single pick and roll gets us into trouble. We smitch too much, we get lost and lose players who do nothing else but shoot. The mental aspect of our defense isnt there yet. Its on the coach aswell. Another stable of what we want to do is double players but we do it way too often and thus we get out of position. Yes, we can trap someone in the corner but when we double even though we a) dont have a chance to really stop the ball and b) bail out guys who have no business being doubled, then problems arise.

On offense it was too much Melo and too many jump shots. When he moves the ball, everything is fine but he took a few too many jumpers today. Guys are still trying to adjust to him and they are still trying to define their roles. Shumpert doesnt know when to drive, when to score, when to shoot. Fields is a desaster.

Another thing, not that we would have won the game with him but how can Balkman not even get 5 minutes today after playing very well in garbage time against the Thunder?! Stubborn by DAntoni. Balkman is a better offensive player than Jeffries who just hurts us on offense. I dont like when the coach stays with his rotation even though players do something to earn minutes and thats what Balkman did. You dont have to give him 20 minutes but atleast give him the feeling that when he does well he has a chance to be on the court.

Anyways, still not time to panic, season is still long and we just have to much talent to let it all go to waste over the long run. Talent will prevail in this league.
Hope is a good thing, maybe the best of things. And no good thing ever dies...

They've been hard to defend all season. Maybe later on in the season they will be easier to defend. But right now, the so-called bozo trio of Redick, Turkoglu, and Anderson is actually pretty dangerous.

oh i know that they're good. but they're not 17-35 from 3 good

Orlando shoots over 40% from 3...we would have been better off hacking Dwight if we couldn't defend the outside shot.

The Knicks play stupid defense, they play chaotic chicken-with-heads-cut-off defense, defense that is based purely on effort and not on fundamentlas. That is fine for strettches but it's not meant to last. And it certaintly isn't going to work against top teams.

come on GONYK u are better than this post.

Hedo Anderson and Reddick our there 3 starters....are they better than Amare, Tyson, and Shumpert?

The question is is JJ, Jorts and TD better than Duhon, Q Tip, and Big Baby....i don't see much of a difference.

It is clealy the coach!

Yeah I would like to see him drive a bit more but Dantoni teams aren't known for driving too much anyway. It's basically transition and open jumpers. I think it's a mix of coaching, him being a rook and not getting the foul calls, and him being a rook and still figuring things out.
