3 NBA Players Share Their Offseason Schedule
By Alan Stein, CCS, CSCS, StrongerTeam.com

Amar'e Stoudemire of the New York Knicks, Andre Iguodala of the Philadelphia 76ers, and Deron Williams of the New Jersey Nets are NBA All-Stars and three of the top players in the league. Each is committed to working extremely hard in the offseason.

Alan Stein of StrongerTeam.com posed the question to all three of them: What does a typical day in your offseason consist of?

Here was their responses:

Amar'e Stoudemire:

I wake up at 8 a.m.
I eat breakfast, usually Granola and fruit.
I warm up, stretch, foam roll, do corrective exercises, core work, and lift heavy.
I go right to the court.
I start with inside work: jump hooks, baby hooks, short jumpers, and Mikan drill.
Then I move to perimeter stuff: ball handling series, face-up moves, game shooting.
I finish around noon (3-plus hours of intense work).
I don't play 5 on 5 in the off-season, but rather focus on my individual development.
I follow this schedule 5-6 days per week.

We all know Amare has a great work ethic but it has yet to translate into what I personally think is the definition of a true PF. Even after 9 seasons and all his hard work, I see a player out there who at times lacks the fundamentals. He just does not fit in with this team. I truly hope he can because at the end of the day I am a Knicks fan and I have no personal agenda against any player.

And as far as the topic of the original post goes, I am happy for him. Education, no matter how little or great it is, always gives a good foundation and roots a person. He will come back a more mature individual if anything next year.

I largely agree with you but what we all seem to forget is that Amare was playing at a very high level before the Melo trade. NOW he doesn't quite fit into the team we have but that is not entirely his fault. Sure he could put more effort into his defensive game and rebounding in particular but the truth is, we dismantled the team he worked best in and it's going to take a bit of time for him to adjust to these new pieces and his new role in the team. Especially considering all the emotional turmoil he's been through this year.

Bettering yourself academically is always admirable. BBall will not last forever and what do you do with yourself then? Gotta plan for the next twenty, thirty years of your career. I'm sure having Harvard and Stanford grads in the team must have helped with the motivation.

Do you think his confidence was shaken was it was revealed the Knicks offered to trade him for Chris Paul?

I think he was under the impression that he'd cemented himself in NY lore and when he saw that we'd turn on him, it made him reconsider his personal image.

I don't think Amar'e Stoudemire knows who he is on or off the court anymore..at least who he is in the fan's eyes.

What really is the fans' view of him? For one, he's criticized for no defense, flat jumpshot and no post game but on the other fans seem to consider him one of the good guys and seem to overlook what he did with the fire extinguisher and hubris.

I support him because he is a Knick, but openly would ship him out as an upgrade.

The dude is flawed, but his game, when he plays it, is valuable.

The incident, which he has done two years in a row now, is inexcusable.

That's a serious problem then. Even if his game could be valuable even though it is one-dimensional, he didn't even play well in 25% of his games this season and that's generous.

I didn't follow Amar'e on the Suns but watch some of his highlights on youtube and he looked great especially his dunks, more of a determination look to his game. What happened when he came to the Knicks, did the money get to him, is Carmelo really affecting his game, or did he just get lazy like other players do after getting a big contract?

If Amare doesn't want to be traded he should play like he earned his contract it's as simple as that. If u don't, don't blame any1 else for you sucking u just flat out suck.

It's not a matter of hate. It's a matter of facing reality. Stat had a HORRIBLE year! Just dreadful. He is clearly in decline and unwilling to even admit it. Then throw in his senseless, idiotic fire extinguisher episode, and you wonder why the vast majority of the board wants to extricate this fool's albatross contract from the books?
Tanking again, I suppose. Is there any other way?

It's not a matter of hate? Are you kidding? People are pissed off he's taking classes over the summer.
