Re: Rose may face Criminal Charges
Been reading the link from The White Bronco from both sides. This doesn't look good for either one. The fact that Rose's legal team hasn't informed him to settle this before this becomes even more serious is ignorance. I'm not going to take a side on this because either one of them could be lying, but if Rose wants to focus on this season and not let this linger over his head, he needs to take care of this before it gets worse for him.

I'm all for justice being served. If Drose is guilty, then he deserves what's coming to him.
There's just nothing about the way this was handled or evidence presented from the victim's side that makes me think he was guilty of rape. Maybe they're holding back their ace in the hole.

I would just pay the thot. She'll run through the money by paying off lawyer fees.

True but if he really is innocent then its just wrong that he has to pay anything. That's why I'm leaning towards either him being innocent or his lawyers being idiots.

If he settles this then he's going to be labeled a rapist. "If he didn't do it, why would he settle" will be what follows him for the rest of his career. If he weren't in the public eye, I'd agree with you. Pay it and be done with it. But as an NBA player who probably makes more off his image than he does on the court, nah, fight this to the death.
And if this woman was raped I feel sorry for her because what she's about to go through when this trial starts is exactly why many women don't press charges when they're victims to sexual assault.

I honestly don't think anyone really cares. I certainly don't. The truth is when you're rich and famous, this is "the life." Us normal folks aren't about that "life," but I think most of us understand that it's just the way it is. If you knew all the crazy, insane sh*t Bill Clinton has done, he probably should be locked up in jail. The quicker it goes away, though, the better.

Re: Rose may face Criminal Charges
To me the most disturbing part of this is how glib Phil was when he was asked about it. Rape is really, really serious sh*t. If he is so certain that Rose is innocent, he should've said so in no uncertain terms. Instead, he made it seem like he doesn't consider the allegations to be that big of a deal, which is problematic for a host of reasons.
As far as the trial goes, I hope the truth comes out. It doesn't look great for either party.

Not trying to criticize, but how did you want Phil to respond? He's not a lawyer, is most likely not familiar with all the hundreds of pages of (often conflicting and/or unclear) evidence, and did not witness the alleged rape. (At least I didn't see his name listed....) Accordingly, Phil really can't say anything more than, “We’re just going to let the process work itself out.”
Zooropa wrote:As far as the trial goes, I hope the truth comes out. It doesn't look great for either party.
It's a civil trial--not criminal--meaning the necessary evidence to "convict," as well as the possible consequences, are far less. Given this, not to mention the nature of the evidence listed on the White Bronco website, I really doubt any "truth" will come out.
Any trial is going to be an absolute mess...a complete circus for both sides. I think the judge knows this, and has been pressuring both sides to settle with his recent judgements (including rejecting the Rose camp's objections and allowing this case to go to trial yet telling the plaintiff that she will lose anonymity if it does). Hopefully, a settlement can be reached, and soon.

Likelihood of a suspension high/low/impossible?

How do you even prove that he did it 2 years later? The bar for guilt is much lower in civil cases than criminal.

Depends
If it stays a civil case then its likely he doesn't get suspended but in a criminal situation then the league would have to do something to set a precedent.
Would suck not to have him opening week of the season.

I don't think there is any question as to whether he did it or not. The question is whether she consented to being trained or not.

If there's no criminal prosecution, I think it'll be low. There's already evidence (text messages) from the accuser's former roommate and co-worker that this is a scam designed to extort money from Rose. Now after almost two years and just as her civil case is heating up she decides to file criminal charges against Rose? Please. This all stinks to high heaven. If anything,I just hope he learned a very big lesson in swag. Sometimes less is more.
