He is going to get better at staying down and intimidating. He is going to get better at not fouling. If he improves to the point where he can consistently get 30-35 minutes a night we have one of the best defensive anchors in the league on one of the best contracts.

You don't trade "insane value" players if you want to build a great team.

True but if we get a guarantee from AD he'll resign dude is a future top 20-30ish player ever. Can't pass on that.

It's impressive no matter what.

A thought. Is it less impressive because the pace is much increased from those eras, so there is more shot blocking opportunities, or, actually less shot blocking opportunities, because even though the pace is increased (more FG's to potentially block) - many more FGAs are 3 pointers, a shot much less traditionally blocked. I'd say in that era more guys took it inside.

Or is the # of FG attempts inside about the same and long 2's became 3's?

Feel like it ultimately balances out and Mitch blocks a bunch of jump shots, so his defensive impact is at the rim - shots blocked and plans altered etc, but also impacts defense away from the rim, blocking perimeter jump shots and also showing and recovering, being able to switch on to smaller guys and guard them etc.

the style of play is more impactful than pace.

https://www.basketball-reference.com/leagues/NBA_stats_per_game.html

the early 80s had more or less the same pace as today's game. it's about a 10% increase from its low in the early 90s, when post and iso driving was the norm. that playstyle just creates a lot more block opportunities for centers who always stayed in the paint.

if you look at the block% list, which filters out the pace of play, the older generation dominates that ranking.

I’d lean towards Young. He’s more of a mature veteran presence. Nance can throw hissy fits at times and I don’t want Mitch to learn those bad habits.

He is a beast. Period. Best draft pick since Ewing. Best contract since...ever. Fits the new era of ball. Untouchable. Gawd status!

Keep Mitch and build slowly. Can’t believe how easily people fall right back into the free agency & trades pipe dreams.
