Aaron Boone has confirmed that Aaron Hicks has expressed frustration over his limited role with the New York Yankees so far the season.

Hicks made his first start of the season on Monday night, batting seventh and playing left field against the Philadelphia Phillies. To that point, he'd only made a pinch-hit appearance.

"The role can evolve and change," Boone said of Hick's playing time. "The biggest thing is I want him to be ready for every opportunity."

Boone's comments came a day after Hicks publicly expressed ignorance about his purpose on the Yankees roster. "I have no idea what my role is," he told Brendan Kuty of The Athletic on Sunday. "It's kind of uncertain."

dude gets paid 10.7 mil to play like ass and he's crying about it

your role is to sit on the bench and watch Judge slam home runs, what the f*ck does he think his job is now?

In fairness i would rather take my chances with Hicks then see IFK play CF. Hicks is capable of going on some hot streaks. IFk at best gives you some singles.

Hicks was a fan favorite? Maybe in Cashman's fantasies. Most Yankee fans I know have always seen him as azz even during his fluke 2018 season.

I really get annoyed when people say "Well it is only the 5th game of the season, you shouldn't overreact with over 157 games remaining on the schedule!!" as though somehow Boone will have an epiphany and stop punting away games like he has done for the past 6 years or as though Hicks, Donaldson and IKF will somehow magically begin to hit like prime Bernie Williams, Scott Brosius and Derek Jeter even though they serve zero purpose on this roster.

It is what it is, this is what Cashman is being kept around for. Before the season started I said that this team will be nothing more than a 90+ win team that will sneak into the postseason, but will get bounced off by either Houston or Tampa in whichever round they face them in.

It's time to bring in Jasson Dominguez. If I see IKF or Hicks in another situation in which they have to drive in a run I will lose it.

Torres is on fire ! 2 HRs and 5 stolen bases already. He's definitely making it tough to trade him to bring in Peraza. I think he wants to stay a Yankee

You know what the greatest tragedy in sports is? That Brian Cashman was once voted executive of the year despite not being able to develop one reliable starting pitcher out of the Yankee farm system in the last 25 years.

This might be Yankees year with pitching upgrades the skies the limit for this team. Also, I think it might be D-backs year too so maybe I need to lay off the drugs for a bit.

Looks like we stumbled into a stud in Brito.

Good at bat and triple for Volpe

Torres and Stanton on fire.

Judge and DJ consistent.

Some young blood in there

Nothing to complain about

I wonder if the Orioles' front office realized that their team also hits the ball to left field before they decided to move the wall back.

Judge with two bombs on the day. I missed the game how did Volpe look?

He looked like Rob Refsnyder. I know it is only 9 games, but the guy just looks entirely overmatched at the plate.

Yeah. I hated Hicks from the start and still thought he was overrated even when he was coming off that one season he was real good at. My immediate reaction to that "bargain" of a deal (I'm guessing from Cashmans' POV at the time) that it was stupid (7 years for a guy that's regularly injured coming off a career year that will drag into his late 30's is stupid I don't care about what the AAV is). And I was right.

Way too early to declare him a bust, though. If you recall when Judge came up, he looked entirely overmatched as well and hit .179 in 84 at-bats with half of them being strikeouts.
