I've not watched it yet, but it's the next thing I will.

"those about to die" looks pretty dope. I'm a sucker for historical drama/action.

Ended up watching Presumed Innocent based on your recommendations...great show. Looks like S2 is greenlit, but it's gonna be a completely new case, which I don't mind. I feel like the storyline got wrapped up this season and don't feel it can go that much further without getting weird.

I gotta bring this post up. Supacell needs to get more hype. Heroes but actually good, with way more interesting characters.

If it hasn't been mentioned the leftovers is a heavy show about grief and reconciliation. It's beautifully done. It's 3 seasons and they only get better.

If you fck with well made dramas this is a must watch.

I'm binge rewatching From before Season 3 drops, and I've convinced myself that they're in hyper-realistic VR game and half the characters are NPCs.

Halt and Catch Fire and Peaky Blinders are two EXCELLENT shows that go on my all time top 20 (Peaky is top 12) lists. Still not sure how/why Halt couldn’t milk more seasons given they started in the 80s and had plenty of runway to keep developing the internet/broadband industry timeline. And Peaky? Chef’s kiss!

Now Sugar had me going because you could tell something was off about him/everyone but the twist was actually somehow unbelievable and believable at the same time. Crazy, but I could see someone being let down. Night Manager was good too, but was The Last of Us written as a miniseries? I’m not sure. As for Riplet, are you talking about the one that came out last year? Still haven’t seen it but someone said I’d like it but I wasn’t too sure.

those scenes in halt where he is waiting on his hiv results were fcking STRESSFUL. sitting alone in his condo with all that wealth and just fcking wrecked with worry - brutal.

hard not to compare it to madmen cause they share the same framework. I found halt to be the more compelling show. prolly cause I fcked with the characters more and that era had a stronger connection than the one madmen took place. though some of the scenes in madmen were so poignant - like towards the end of don and betty's relationship where they're discussing it and only the kitchen is lit up where everything around them is dark. when the dull conversation ends they both go in opposite direction into the dark - just masterfully shot. anyways, both phenomenal shows just my preference is halt. it did have the better dad

Speaking of HBO shows, has anyone here watched The Deuce? What's your thoughts on that one?

I liked Season 1. Season 2 not as much

Funny, Halt and Catch Fire never grabbed me, whereas Mad Men is the best drama ever in my opinion. Partly because I was roughly Sally's age in 1960 when the show started. But it's just so brilliant, I don't think Halt was in the same league. I think most critics agree. There was a good article in the old website Grantland that called Mad Men, Sopranos, The Wire and Breaking Bad as the big 4 of the prestige TV era.

I rank The Americans, The Leftovers and a few others as just a notch below the Four. But of course there are so many great shows and everyone's taste is different.

i definetly wouldn't argue that halt was better than mad men. mad men is elite tv. my main problem with it was I truly didn't fck with any of the characters. they were unlikable. I find it truly hard to immerse myself in a show when I don't care what happens to the characters. when it is left to the art, which in mad mens case was elite, it doesn't captivate me as much. whereas halt I truly liked some of the characters. now I could argue that mad men went more in-depth and when you get to know people more you tend to dislike em. but I don't think that was the case. I think most of em just were shtty people. but damn was it such a beautifully orchestrated show. I'm in the minority and most people would agree with you that madmen is the better show.

that big 4 is hard to argue though i don't think breaking bad is up there. I'd replace it with the leftovers, but I don't think most people are into shows that tackle grief in such a poignant way. you can watch all these shows and take more from them.

GoT was amazing. it's just too bad it stopped after season 7 and they never finished the series

I could most definitely make a case for a lot of shows being better than Mad Men, maybe not Halt, but a few dozen. I get why people love it, but I always felt like it was showing a relatively close world. I eventually got around to watching the whole series as many in my circle work in television and I wanted to be able to speak intelligently about it. The real tragedy of my life is that I never got past the second episode of Breaking Bad lol.. it’s almost comical watching my face talking about the greatest shows ever when someone brings up Breaking Bad. My shoulders literally sag lol…

Two HBO Legacy Shows that many of you will like if you've never seen them:

Deadwood
Carnivale

Deadwood is great and feels like one of the best series ever for understanding this country

Carnivale is great in its way, but it is going to be a yay or nay for most people. I enjoyed it myself. It is also a slice of Americana that has historical flavor, but it veers into more of a gothic supernatural vibe.
