It's the 3 wings, they are all + when the other 2 are off the court. Looking at the numbers more, it's specifically Mikal and OG are actually deeply in the negative when it's just them and no Josh, while the 2-man groups including josh are +30-35. But weirdly enough, when they're all on their own we are between +10-16 net rating, with Mikal having the highest number oddly enough.

Eye test has been correct too, Deuce has been better than both Mikal and OG so far, we're +10 when he's on the court and -5 when he's off. So, more Deuce.

Deuce and hart off the bench and if u want a back up big, play precious. With Delon

We almost got shot out the gym in the first quarter without it

Mitch and Karl are +20 net rating when they're on the court together, you saw it last night in the 4th quarter, we built that big lead when Brunson was out and it was Deuce + the double bigs. I actually wouldn't take Hart out if the double bigs are on the floor too, he was on the floor last night when we went up 15.

as much as it seems to go against conventional logic, josh doesn't really seem to be the problem. lineups with what would be considered worse spacing are doing better in spite of that.

I was just thinking. We built a team to beat the Celts..and it worked. But the depth we sacrificed in the process is hurting us versus Indy. I'm pretty sure a healthy Knicks squad from last season chock full of size, bench shooters and rebounders would have a much easier time.

Next season we need to focus on replenishment what we gave up.

I know I have had this discussion with you before a couple times throughout the season where I questioned why Thibs played that lineup so many minutes together when they don't seem to fit well together. It may be too late to change things now but why not use the regular season to try different things?

Some people want to move Hart to the bench but when all 5 starters were available the other 4 starters only played a total of 49 minutes without Hart on the court for the entire regular season. Maybe keeping Hart in the starting 5 and moving someone like Mikal to the bench would be beneficial but I can't really say because Thibs didn't try it. Not only did he not adjust the starting 5, he played the starting 5 together all throughout the games.

Why is it too late to change it...honestly I feel a big reason is because Duece plays alot of his minutes with Mitch and vice versa. I think the knicks have proven we play better when we stagger Brunson/KAT.

Just look at the lineups.

Brunson/KAT 2-man -3.4

Brunson/Mitch 2 man +12.5
McBride/KAT 2 man +14.9

Its a lot to ask of the wings to defend at a high level trying to cover up for 2 bad defenders.

Lets say for optic reasons...you don't want to change the lineup to upset anyone...you don't have to play them 7 straight minutes to start the game and you certainly don't have to have that group finish the game when it's our worst NET rating group.

Our worst 2-man defensive rating lineup in Brunson/KAT at 116.2

Brunson with Mitch moves our DEF rating all the way down to 107.6

KAT with Mcbride move out DEF rating all the way down to 98 (which is wild).

What I can't understand is how bad of a pairing Mikal and OG are together for whatever reason the OFF goes to **** with both of them...and the defense isn't super impactful but I think that has a lot to do with most of the time when they are playing together they are playing with Brunson/KAT.

The on/off numbers with him and without him are confusing, but I'm going to assume it's because he's the secondary ball handler and his rebounding just keeps constant pressure on teams. He had an rebound to an assist in that 4th quarter run.

He doesn't pass the eye test cause you're just watching him play, be ignored and then look at how much better his splits are than OG or Mikal will leave you like

for now he just needs to use it less. the thunder starting lineup is not great either according to this (i don't think chet and ihart work that great together) but it's played half the minutes we have.

The depth is overstated, they had Obi on the court, and we never went after him, he should have been targeted over and over again whether in the post or on the perimeter. Yet, we just kept taking early 3s going for the knockout punch.

its well known the knicks offense is at its best when we are getting stops and getting out in transition and that is where Hart holds all his value...clearing rebounds and pushing the pace is our best offense...but it starts with getting stops.

And having Brunson/KAT put in a ton of action with no POA defense and no rim protection is not going well.

I say that to say this...we didn't lose the game last night because of Brunson/KAT's defense. So again that continues to be confounding. You can make the case Brunson lost nesmith once and KAT didn't push up on a shooter one time...but it was OG/Hart and Bridges one time that gave up 3's in the closing few minutes.

I think it's too late, he won't bench Josh and he doesn't have the courage to sit Mikal or OG, because Deuce has been better than both throughout the playoffs.

Realistically, Wright should be part of the rotation, if it's even just for 5 minutes. The numbers have been saying this starting 5 is cooked since January, they should start Mitch but he doesn't trust Precious and doesn't really stagger lineups well either.
