That's my biggest concern. Of course everyone said the same about the Suns and Amar'e so I'll wait before I conclude this.

carmelo = kobe
amar'e = pau
chandler = bynum

definitely looks like a phil jackson roster

very true actually

reports are he offered a max contract for 1 year so they would be able to sign 1-2 max next year and chandler said no

Da_Mane_Man wrote:what about the toe injury that canceled his trade a few seasons ago? is that completely behind him? it was thought to be career threatening.

what about the myriad of other injuries he's had during his career?

what about the fact that he's never been seen as a "dominant" defensive presence until last year when he joined a dallas mavericks team that hasn't defended well in a few decades?

this certainly smells like an isiah move. a guy has one good year and we sign him to a rediculous contract. jerome james 2.0

don't get me wrong, i would LOVE a defensive center here, but not at the risk of handcuffing ourselves for years to come.

I don't get how people are overlooking ALL of these factors. People laughed at dude for asking for Max money and suddenly this move is a home run now? I'd rather make a run at one of the other major C's on the market offering 10 million to the first taker between Dalembert, Gasol and Nene.

Apparently the toe is ok. Dallas's trainer recommended they acquire him

Remember the man with the most controversial toe in league history, the big one on the left foot that led to a rescinded trade between New Orleans and Oklahoma City in February 2009? Thunder general manager Sam Presti identified Chandler as the perfect piece to occupy his team's paint and complement his young stable of stallions, only to decide against it after seeing the big man's physical.

It was a calculated choice made with the advice of Carlan Yates, an Oklahoma-City based doctor who -- as irony would have it -- had performed the surgery to repair Chandler's left big toe after the 2006-07 season and subsequently ruled him a risk. Nineteen months later, the only red flags being waved near Chandler are the ones in front of the rim Dallas is defending in an NBA arena near you.

Ignore that cliché alert sounding off in the background. When it comes to Chandler, the locker room/personality aspect simply can't be discounted.

All involved are raving about his leadership skills, none more than Mavs owner Mark Cuban. In an e-mail to FanHouse, Cuban -- who was asked whether Chandler was a player he had coveted for quite some time before making the move -- bypassed a chance to credit his own personnel homework and instead credited the chemistry factor, with the hat tip to his trainer.

"Our trainer, Casey Smith, deserves all the credit," Cuban wrote. "He worked with (Chandler) on Team USA (last summer during the FIBA Tournament in which the Americans won the gold medal) and was able to provide us insight into his leadership abilities. ... We had heard some good things about him from the World Championship team and that started the ball rolling (in the trade discussions).

-Gasol is restricted and Memphis won't let him go.
-Nene is a bad rebounder thus a bad fit next to Amare
-Dalembert isn't nearly as good as any of these guys and will still probably get at least $10mil per

Y'all need to stop it with this Nash BS. He's like 150 years old. If he comes next year, if he's still alive, then he should probably be a back up to Shumpert.

We are looking WAY to hard into Tyson. Mavs want Deron Williams next season.

They could sign Nene or Gasol too. They have options.

they want deron

I know but with Dirk's age you'd think they'd be all about winning now.

Chandler changed the whole defensive identity of the Mavericks, hopefully he can do the same here.. I also agree that you dont need a GREAT point guard to win, find me someone who can pass the ball to amare and melo, can hit the open 3, and defend..

Tyson Chandler's per 36 last year:

13.1 PPG/12.1 RPG/1.4 BPG/ 4.2 PF

I'm guessing he's probably going to play around 30-32 MPG.

Ehh, they should be happy they even won one championship. They should have won in '06. They were lucky to make the Finals 5 years later.

There's a fine line between going all in and having a plan for the future. It's smart for them to start looking around for a new face for the franchise. If they can get Deron he'll help immediately no doubt but also be a guy they can build around when Dirk slows down and eventually retires.

AND...run the pick and roll, have a high BBIQ, don't force sh*t, and be a good distributer/real point guard.

Plus Deron can always be the franchise player when Dirk goes. Dallas still can Dwight as well.

Just saw Tyson Chandler at my gym in Los Angeles (drives a monster truck type Ford F350). I find it hilarious that I don't even get excited anymore when I see him (even though he's huge in the news) because I see him virtually everyday. He was talking to a group of 5-6 people. He couldn't really say anything, other than he's looking at a few options and that he leaves most of the work to his agent - he focuses on training and getting ready. A lot of the guys were telling him that it was his turn to "get his."
