i think it will actually happen relatively soon. There was a rumored 5 team deal. And now there is even a hotter 3 team deal with 3 of the 5 teams rumored. I think Billups might be holding up a few things because if he is the president im sure he wants to ok any big deal that either brings in PG13 or some combination of PG13 and Melo.
Also we will probably wait until FA starts to see who is using cap space and who misses out on FA. Once Melo finally turns down any other potential deal and says CLE or i'll stay. And we dont' get anything from CLE we want. It will come down whether we will actually move forward with a buyout.

right. it doesn't hinder your ability to make a trade at all when the entire world knows you can't wait to get rid of the player because you declared it publicly. why would it ? lol
go back to january and see what people thought they could get for melo and compare it to now.

there is no way you can have melo start training camp. It would take away everything we are trying to build here. All the young players would be forced by the media everyday to answer questions about melo/phil. It would be terrible for play development and an added headache to start the year.
At this point we have gone too far to consider bringing him into training camp.
If you put it that way, KP drama is even bigger at this point. At least until KP publicly apologizes.

I don't think the KP stuff will get any better until Melo is gone. At least at that point we can move forward with a direction and hopefully KP is on board. KP can't be that dumb to think we can build a contender in one year. Sucking actually helps him get future pieces.
It would only make things worse with Melo being bought out. It is one thing to trade him which is fine. It is another to pay him to go away when Melo wants to be here. The way I see it, between KP and Melo, only of them's agent came out and declared the player wants to be here "despite how players are treated here". To me, that sentence has bigger consequences than missed exit interview or anything Melo did.

what people thought and what we can actually get are two different things. There are pretty reputable people on this site that still think we should of got positive assets for JR smith. When the entire NBA didn't want him. People will believe what they want.
The knicks needed two locations for them to have any leverage. They need the clippers and cle to both want him and even then both those teams have sh*t unless they were willing to give up 2021+ future pick(s).
Melo also has a little incentive to be traded and not waived because he would lose his 15% trade kicker. Which isn't jump change over the next 2 years. So there is some incentive for him to want to be traded too. If like you said its all about the $$$.

listen. don't get me wrong. the deal was always gonna suck because of the ntc. but you probably could have squeezed a late first rounder out of the clippers or cavs at one point. that's nothing. teams do that all the time. now ? you can't. that's all.

thats fair. Im not suggesting otherwise and maybe it can still happen if Melo wants that trade kicker...
some people would argue signing redick or taking on shumpert multiple years wouldn't be worth a late protected 1st years down the road. But I see your point.

Re: official Melo trade speculation - thread 2
it's a fact that phil killed melo's value
we're gonna end up buying out melo and ending up with nothing.
well done phil
“Tremendously,” another exec said when asked how much Jackson may have damaged Anthony’s trade value. “He essentially said, ‘I want to dump this guy.’ ”
“Phil made a statement basically that Carmelo’s a losing type of player. Well, if he’s a loser for the Knicks, he’s going to be a winner someplace else? That obviously didn’t help,” one Eastern Conference executive said.

it's for the people that think melo absolutely sucks and needs to rot on the bench. that's laughable

Oh ok. Yeah Melo doesn't suck, he never has...his game has diminished over time. But he provides a skill set of putting the ball in the hoop and can do it in a variety of ways. As long as you know what your getting. He plays no defense anymore and is a little stubborn in terms of adapting his game. But as a small ball 4 for a team like CLE he would be a welcome addition.

I don't think we think Melo Sucks...Him rotting on the bench at his age can diminish his abilities to keep up with todays NBA. I felt that having him sit on a bench is a way of countering his NTC. Melo knows sitting on the bench for a season is the worst thing for his game. Just my thoughts

There will be no buy out people. Either Melo is traded or he comes back next year in a lesser role.

i think he can still play defense and adapt his game with a coach who preaches defense and change. we've seen what he did with fisher.
i have no doubt in my mind we will see "dad melo" on any contender. we wont see **** here with hornacek and phil........

that's pretty stubborn to bench an all star because of his NTC..
how can phil give someone a NTC then try to force someone to leave?
does he know what an NTC is?
listen, if melo is staying, start him as usual. that's disrespectful to bench him because he wants to stay loyal to his team......
if they can't find a trade at all and still want him gone then just buy him out. don't freaking bench him. what does that accomplish?

Re: official Melo trade speculation - thread 2
Phil really botched this terribly bad. By basically saying he doesn't want Melo on team, Melo and other teams have all the leverage. Why would Melo waive his no trade so his new team has to give up assets and take on his contract. Why not get waived, and go to the team of his choice and make the Knicks pay his contract.
The only two options I see are bring back a unhappy Melo or absorb his contract and waive him.

Re: official Melo trade speculation - thread 2
all this moronic talk about buying out Melo is adding to the lack of urgency teams have to trade for him
I think once we get some free agency decisions underway - and specifically Paul - the melo interest will perk up

like you said the best case scenario short of a melo trade is him being the good employee/dutiful soldier and coming off the bench as dad melo. i think that is gonna be great for the knicks and for him. only thing stopping that is his vanity, false pride, fragile ego, branding exetera....

on the other hand.... never mind
