If you remove both Novembers, his career 3pt% would be 34%. Which is league average. He just shoots so terribly in November (18% combined) that it drags down what would otherwise be solid shooting to bad
That's why I don't like the Allen and Roberson comps, cause Frank's shot is significantly better than theirs, and he's still younger than both were when they came into the league.
Right, my point was using them as a baseline. Fans constantly talking about how he can't be on the floor if he can't shoot. Well, there are 2 great defensive guard/wings who prove that statement wrong. Meanwhile, he's a better playmaker than both and his shot doesn't look broken at all. I don't have a ton of confidence in fiz seeing the light, but I'd love him to prove me wrong.
Difference is Tony Allen and Andre Roberson were both smart and active cutters. They cut to the basket aggressively to finish inside so they could be a factor off the ball despite their broken jumpers. Frank doesn’t seem to have the same understanding of how to move without the ball and how to find openings on the floor. He’s far too passive on the court, even off the ball. And while Frank is a better passer than both, I think it’s a stretch to categorize him as a playmaker, although he does have some interesting upside as a secondary ball-handler/playmaker down the line.
He’s been a complete liability both on and off the ball offensively. That’s the reality. He and the Knicks should focus on the simplest things: improve his ability to cut to the basket and improve his jumper off the catch. He can definitely have a positive impact and help us win games if he becomes respectable in those areas. But if he can’t do those things, then he might not get a second NBA contract.
Some of y’all preach patience but the fact is that he didn’t show any signs of improvement in his second season. In fact, he regressed defensively and his scoring efficiency went from bad for a rookie to historically bad. My point is, I think it’s fair to expect some form of improvement in his third year in the league. I’m not even expecting him to become a « good » player (I understand he might take longer to develop and that’s fine), but he needs to grow up now and show some signs that he gets it offensively. And don’t blame it on Fiz if he can’t crack .400 FG%. This victimization of Frank is lame tbh.
You make a fine point about the cutting. It's certainly a tangible skill he could improve on too. I also specifically see frank in his best role as a secondary playmaker, and relative to roberson/allen he certainly is one. His playmaking in transition especially is solid. Again the shot doesn't look broken, either so yeah they need to have some patience with the 3PT shooting developing. Even if he just gets to 33% next season on a little higher volume that'd be a good sign.
Yes, the defense regressed last season, but remember he was hurt having only played 43 games. You're reminded in this tournament just how high his defensive awareness is, and ability to recover is especially impressive. To be clear, he definitely needs to show improvement overall this season as most players need to do in year 3 (see DSJ). I hope we get to see whether or not he can take that next step.
As far as fiz, you have to at least acknowledge what actually happened. Every young player worth developing on the roster had a longer leash than frank. He constantly got pulled in game for the slightest mistake. He rarely strung together multiple games in a row of at least 20 min played. In 20 of his 43 games he played less than 20 min. Meanwhile, someone like knox had a 23 game stretch where he shot 32.1% from the field and still played 29.1 MPG. In only 1 of those 23 games did he play less than 20 min. Aggressive doesn't automatically equal good and I fear fiz has trouble distinguishing between the 2.

why did frank make a few shots and then immediately get up on the opposing player to play defense? is that good basketball? it can't be, because he's so bad at basketball.
why did he pass so much, and smart passes, too? he should've shot it, instead, about 13 more times.that can't be good basketball, either.
hopefully the knicks trade him. frank seems too smart, with good instincts, with too good of defense to be on the knicks

Re: The Next Official All things Frank Ntilikina Thread
Very very verryyyyyyyy stressful game ! Ntilikina sacrificed himself doing good D but too aggressive, and Collet prefered having an organizer on the court at the end, someone with lower gravity point to make the game more fluid, create more passes via penetration (even if it didnt work a lot ...)
It just wasnt a game for Frank, the main focus was inside with a huge battle Gobert/ Poirier vs Jonas/ Sabonis.
The keys of the game were given to Fournier and De Colo and when Frank was on the floor he just had to set them up for a good shot position.

Fair points.
To be clear, I called out Fiz on several occasions for his double standards regarding playing time. I had no issue with him benching Frank because of his play, but it made 0 sense to keep giving Knox minutes when he was performing as poorly as Frank offensively while playing no defense whatsoever. It was clear then that Fiz was playing favorites and that his commitment to defense was all talk. Knox’s minutes to me were the bigger issue, because they were symbolic of the lack of accountability and consistency from the coaching staff. In other words, if Knox played, Frank deserved to play too. Or maybe both should’ve been sitting on the bench.

They definitely are. It's "NEE-LEE-KEE-NA" not "NIK-I-LEE-NA" which is what they're saying.
Haha, I read "are they pronouncing Frank's name correctly", hence the NO
To be fair, was only the Canadian guy saying NIK-UH-LEE-NA, which is gross.

He was in foul trouble very fast, like De Colo, Albicy and Fournier.
It's his first big competition, and first big game in this competition.
Being in foul trouble at the PG position made Frank very stressed because there was no room for mistakes, he's gotta learn a lot abt this game and come back stronger vs Australia (monday morning 8am ET).
During the post game show, bball journalists in France are kinda bashing Frank not for being scoreless, but for not being good on Defense, mostly against Kalnietis who passed him very easily.
It's normal he didnt come back on the floor at the end because we needed the experience of Albicy.
Again France started amazingly the game but with so many stupid fouls, that hurt them at the end of each quarter (5 team fouls = 2ft in FIBA).
Frank just like French D need to be more patient because they do have all the weapons to defend perfectly with Gobert, Poirier, Batum, M'Baye, Toupane and Frank

Frank was aggressive on D, again pressing full court, but unfortunately ended up with a few fouls.
I don't recall him really getting the stops this time, but he looked disruptive, and probably contributed to the slow start from Lithuania.
In the first half his few shots didn't fall, but I didn't think he played terribly on offense.
He can't keep the dribble in a crowd like the smaller Albicy can, which limits his ability to really get into the teeth of the defense.
It's not terrible for France though, which usually has him pass off to a Fournier or De Colo off a curl.
He played a bit less in the 2nd half. The offense seemed to seemed to sputter a bit, but it wasn't that much better when he was off the court. In the end, it was really the SGs playing hero ball that pulled out the win.

He did try a spin move then missed the layup, and in a sense its great he tries more, but God he's not good at finishing inside.
Why dont he uses his amazing body to draw contact slowing down then provok fouls ????!!!!!!!!!

Frank had 0 points, 2 assist, 2 rebounds, 0/3 from the field, 4 fouls in 13 minutes not a good showing from him tonight. On a side note if france and usa win there group play on Monday they will play each other on Wednesday. If france and usa play each other on Wednesday Frank better show up against usa guards and not play like crap against kemba walker, donvan mitchell, derrick white, and marcus smart.

Wrong ! If France win vs Australia they'll play in quarter final against the 2nd of the USA group, and then the only way for us to face USA will be in final.
the looser of France - Australia will face USA in quarter final
Edit : Is Smart still questionable ??

Wow, a lot riding on the Australia game for France. Australia beat Lithuania, so it's not gonna be an easy task.
Patty Mills has been great. That's gonna be a huge challenge for Frank.

It'll be Albicy's mission to stop Mills.
But the trap would be to focus on Mills ! Let him score his 30pts, but we gotta lock down Baynes, Bogut for Gobert/Poirier, and Batum will be on Ingles.
Frank's role should be to pressure Delly and being on the passing lane to disturb their organization.
Then offensivelly, Fournier and De Colo attract so much attention, it'll give opportunities for Mbaye, Toupane and Ntilikina to shoot.
