Yeah we need to space the floor better. Hartenstein wasn't known for rebounding with the Clippers. Add in Thibs coaching obsession with offensive boards and there's an overall net-positive addition to be had.

* Jonas Valanciunas :dontknow:

I-Hart's passing threat was a fair substitute for spacing the floor. A stretch 5 isn't the end-all-be-all.

Any Knicks fan who supports trading Randle plus other assets for anyone is a lunatic.

I saw a trade for Durant for Randle, 3 picks and Robinson. Lmao!!!!!!!! Randle is better than Durant. Phoenix would need to send us picks and assets.

His passing is great. It's nice to have skilled bigs. We'll see about Mitch but no team needs both a Sims and a Mitch.

iHart is a stretch 5. The defense can't camp in the paint when he has the ball at the FT line extended, because his passing is too much of a threat. They have to guard him.

There are very few actual stretch 5's that bend the defense from the threat of their shooting. KP, Embiid, Lopez and KAT (pre-Gobert) might be the only true ones.

Thats a bit extreme. Randle for Booker or Giannis is an absolute no brainer

I believe we can if it is executed in a certain way but not 100% positive.

the rules say that as long as it is within 110%. 125% hard caps.

If we combine the salaries, we will be hard-capped in the second tier (188M).

If we send more money than receive, I believe we will be hard-capped in the first apron (178M). It looks like the 110% rule is no longer applied this season.

At this point I doubt even Dolan is silly enough to interfere with what the Knicks are doing. The franchise is really in the best spot it has been since the mid 90s. He isn't going to mess with that IMO.

The other big question is: With the structure of the salary cap and it's punitive nature....does it make more sense to have 2 stars and a strong supporting cast or 3 stars and a much thinner bench. I personally like the first model a lot. Not only for the Knicks but also for the league it is good to have an even distribution of talent.

I agree, that's the argument against acquiring KAT and his contract. There's other ways to acquire a stretch 5. The nature of the salary cap rewards continuity and distribution of talent. Brunson's ability to find Hartenstein for the floater over and over verse Philly. Best to build on that.

Is it even worth investing in a stretch 5 when so much of our offense is offensive rebounds to get second shots?

Stretch bigs in this day and age are almost always worth it. It’s why Randle shooting 37% from 3 is an All NBA player. Being able to play 5 out is a cheat code.

Everybody understands that. He’s a great fit basketball-wise though, just like Markkanen.

KAT is only a great fit on the offensive end.

Not really.
Our primary problem on offense was often times we had 2 guys who could score on the court at a time.
3-D Center with mobility on defense would be a game changer for us.
JJJ from Memphis is probably the best fit I can think of but they would be crazy to move him.
